First it was the R-pod, then all the goodies for the new R-pod, then the new hitch and the 7 pin connector and the brake controller.  Then I decided that the 4 cylinder Tacoma might be a bit lacking in power and the Xterra (with a small 6 cylinder) weighted so much it wasn't a much better tow vehicle  than the Tacoma.  So, out I go and buy a new Tacoma with a 6 cylinder.  It's a good thing I have the R-pod.  I might have to sell the house to pay for everything else.  Wink

I had the Tacoma 4 cyl for only 3 1/2 years which is the shortest time I've ever owned a vehicle.   I don't consider a vehicle 'broken in' for at least ten years.  The Xterra is a 2000 model.  Runs great, it's just lacking in power.   I'll be using the R-pod next week pulled by the Tacoma.  It'll be the first real trip for either.  I can't wait.

Yup, w/o the pod we might still have a popup and be pulling with our Sienna.

Yep, Poddin' is a commitment! If we had bought our Pod 1.5 years sooner, we'd still have my 8 cyl SUV. Instead, traded 8 cyl SUV for 4 cyl car (gas mileage), then traded 4 cyl car for 6 cyl truck (towing) to buy Pod. My least favorite question when I tell my buddies about the Pod and they see the new truck, "Didn't you used to have an SUV?" My answer, "Yes, but i don't want to talk about it." Confused

To funny.  I also bought the 4 cyl for the mileage.  If I had only known.  I'm already hearing it from my 'buddies' about trading a 3+ year old truck with only 12,000 miles on it.

Hi Doug, I'm planning on buying a Toyota Sienna and an R-Pod 177. Will this combo work?
Appreciate any help.
Thankx

Welcome to the forum.   Not sure about the Sienna, but my xterra with a 3.3L engine did 'ok' power wise.  Had to slow way down in some of the Georgia 'mountains'.   With the 4l tacoma I don't even know the r-pod is there.

Welcome gnawbone.  I had a 2003 Sienna, with 215 horsepower.  It was marginal - fine for backroads, fine on a flat highway.  But it had to downshift to 2nd to maintain speed on grades at highway speed, and one trip to Florida I had a full day of heavy headwind and I physically couldn't maintain full speed (mpg dropped to 8, too).

The newer Siennas have more power and torque so they should do better.  The Siennas have a fairly short wheel base and a very soft suspension no matter what model year, so I highly highly recommend a weight distribution hitch like the E2 or Equalizer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm considering the Andersen WDH because of its lite weight. The Sienna, when properly equipped, is rated at 3500#. That should be okay for Promised Land State Park and some of the Maryland parks...

I went with the andersen hitch because it seemed much less 'fussy' to install and adjust.  I haven't had much experience with weight distribution hitches but the andersen seems to work well.
