We finally gave up our tent after a few inclement trips this summer and last week we bought a 2013 171 from Nelson's here in Boise. (Besides, the ground has gotten harder and colder every year, it must be related to climate change and not the increasing number of birthday candles.) The inaugural trip was much colder than forecast but we're exceptionally pleased and I even managed to empty the tanks for the first time without looking like a character from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I've been lurking for a few weeks without registering and I want to complement everyone on the helpful and informative posts. I've already put some of the tips to use and am compiling the mods to work on this winter (LEDs, bench storage mods, etc.).

Thanks for the help.  --Jim

Welcome! I'm quite new too. Haven't even picked up my 176 yet (this Fri 10/12). I also found a lot of information in this forum and am anxious to take my Maiden Voyage and see if any of the mods would suit me.

That colder, harder ground is much the same as the plot to get less light from lightbulbs.  Really annoying!

Congratulations and welcome.  We are just finishing our sixth trip since taking delivery of our 2012 171 HRE in May.  We are finishing a 2,600 mile trip from Portland OR, to Bryce and Zion National Parks.  Have had a fabulous time.  No problems at all.  Will recommend using the flush device on the side of the trailer for the black water tank.  The sensor for that tank is invariably incorrect.  In any event, enjoy and Safe Travels.

Hello fellow pod'rs,

We just purchased a new 177 for our cats and we are hoping that they will allow us to use the pod for a few trips early in 2013. We purchased the pod in Fremont, Ohio and had a wonderful experience with the dealer. We camped on the return trip and everything went fine. We are not new RV'rs but we hadn't had an RV for several years so we need some reminders. Thanks to the forum as you all reminded me of things I should remember!!

We are towing with a 2008 Toyota Sienna w/towing package and the rig seems to work well. We purchased the bike rack and R-dome. The cats have ask that we watch the weight of our supplies and such so they can take plenty of food & toys along.

Hope to see you on the road

Hello everyone, We are proud owners of a 177...purchased it from Stoltzfus RVS in PA about two weeks ago...drove 4 hours to pick it up...so worth it

We camped in tents years ago but never in a camper...so this is all new to us.  Love this site!

Can anyone tell us about using the cover...we have not purchased one yet and not sure we should.

Hi Carl's cats,,

Welcome to podding! Be aware that in many places, especially state parks, like in PA, you are considered the same as members of the canine ilk (oh the horror!) and thus your owners will be relegated to camp in the "pets" section and be charged an extra fee for the night. I have yet to bark, poop on the campsite driveway, or steal any campers steak off the grill, but still they insist on this policy. Just a warning. I find it maddening, but still the rules are the rules, and I am only a little guy!

Have fun in your new traveling home. Ask your people to fix up a nice shelf under one of the windows so you can watch the world go by when they are out there having a good time!

Dusty, the camping kitty.

Hi All,
Kind of new at all this internet stuff.   Not sure how to post, but thought I'd reply to this "thread" because I'm new.  Just purchased 172 from Sutton.  Pick up 10/26.  Taking tour of factory.  Spoke w/Susan quite a lot.

Picked Sutton because the 4 other dealers in the pacific nw+w just told me to take it or leave it and did not have competitive pricing.  Sutton is doing some custom mods (mostly electrical) that I gleaned from this forum.

Will let all know how the Sutton things turns out when I finally take delivery next week, but I want to say this forum has saved me ~nkthousands of $$.

Will keep all posted on how I do.  obtw: Hood River.  Still out on generator, solar system.

Regards all,

Robullelk

Welcome.  You can start a new thread after you click into a sub-forum.  Look for the "New Topic" button at the upper-left.  Note that you do NOT need to enter a date when you start a new thread, that is just for events.

Robullelk, We also have a 172, no matter what model you will love it, go slow on the mods until you have used it a few times, some you will want, some are dependent upon use. No matter a bad day podding is better than a good day at work.
