Hi Folks,

We fried our hot water heater element, while at KOA Cape Hatteras. We ended up flagging over a van with a sign " OBX Mobile RV Service" that was headed to work on another RV. The Owner Bubba Walke and his assistance Bill, swung over and analyzed the problem and replaced it within minutes. They were great! (252) 202-2207. They are based out of Kill Devil Hills.
If you need help in this area, I highly recommend them!

I have done the same thing with the water heater element and the dealer strongly suggested that I use the propane side of the water heater.  the electric side is supposed to be used ony for quicker heating of the water along with the propane and not to be used all of the time.  I have found that the propane side heats jus as well and uses very little propane and therefore saves the elcectri side of the water heater.

Not true, the element is designed for continuous use just like a home electric heater.  If used along with the propane burner it will recover much faster - useful if more than one person needs to take a shower.  The only way the electric element will burn out (other than old age) is if the water heater is empty, and the easy solution is to leave it filled up during camping season.

Yeah, in Vermont and New Hampshire we have really hard water, the calcium will coat and mess with the heater elements. We have to constantly flush out the hot water tank, so there is no build up in the tank, you would not believe the amount of stuff that gets flushed out.
Roughly a $12.00 part and 15-20 mins to replace it. The annode rods also take a beating. We got 4 years out of the original.
