Manatee Spring is one of the many fresh water springs that contribute to the Suwannee River as it winds from the swamps of Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico.  Depending on water table levels, it pumps out between 3 million and 8 million gallons of water a day.  Swimming in the year-'round 72 degree water is invigorating, to say the least.

Campsites are spacious enough for up to 40 foot trailers / motor homes, but most of the rigs we saw were smaller.  Our RP 177 nestled right in with plenty of room to put up the R-Dome.  Oak, Hickory and palm trees shade each site.  Power and water, along with a picnic table and fire ring, are provided.  A dump station is available on your way out.  Rest rooms and showers are conveniently located.

Pets are allowed, on a leash, but not in the swimming area or on the boardwalk that follows the spring race out to the River.  It is in this spring race that one might glimpse a West Indian Manatee during the winter months when the Gulf waters get too cool.

The snack bar / concession stand was closed during our mid-week visit, but I have tent camped there years ago and when open it provides a source of camping related essentials as well as fast food and soft beverages.  Picnic tables and covered pavilions are available for both campers and day visitors.

Fees are a very reasonable $20. per night, with a 50% discount available to Florida Senior Citizens, (65 years old, or, as in my case, older!)

Highly Recommended  Smile
