I have a 2 1/2 yr old son who loves camping. He's an only child but loves playing with other kids. Is there a forum or group that I can join?

I'd like to find other families in my area (Near Dallas) to go camping with. I've tried recruiting my friends but they're always busy or don't have an interest in camping.

I would try to find a family friendly campground in your ares. Here in Minnesota they have a few campgrounds that cater to children and they are great fun for the kids.

We've had some luck doing what sfish describes - find a campground first, then make friends with your neighbors.  Since they are camping you've already crossed that "problem" off of your list and can concentrate on their personal qualities.  Once your kids get to a certain age, maybe 5, they'll end up making a ton of friends within 20 minutes of arrival so they take care of the next hurdle all on their own.

There was one family who were our neighbors one year during our annual week at the beach, we ended up syncing up our week at the beach trips for the next few years, although they lived too far away to try to keep up a friendship outside of that.  You could end up with a home run and find a family that camps, the kids like each other, you like the parents, and they live close by.

One suggestion is to look up your local http://www.campjellystone.com/ - Jellystone campground .

You could always ask at the office if there is anyone there from your area.  I'm sure they would give you some site numbers.

When my kids were younger they made friends very fast after we pulled into the camp grounds. (now they are older and do not camp with us)  Campers seem to be more open and freindly than if you want to a play ground and tried to make friends.   We treasured the times we had with them camping.
