I am sure that this has been asked and answered before however I can not find the answer. After our final campout for the Halloween Camping we got home and I began the process of winterizing Goofy. When I drained the water heater I found it overcome with a white mineral deposit. Any one have any suggestions on how I can clean out the inside of the unit? I know for a fact that I will have to replace the Adnode rod as it is eaten about 1/3 of the way through at the base. Frustrating to say the least since I ahve always used a water filteration system since starting to use the camper to try and prevent just this kind of problem. Our dealer suggested to leave the aniod rod out and hookup to city water and let it flush out ------------- Ready to pod around! |

The white substance is zinc (oxide), which dissolved off the anode rod, protecting the other metal parts of the heater. If the material is not flushed out, it can be pumped up to the faucet aerators and clog them. The most effective way I found to clean out the material is to buy a heater flushing tool from your RV dealer. It is a long rod with a curved tip. You connect it to a garden hose and insert it into the anode rod port. Rotate the rod as you flush out the tank...this will spray water all around the inside of the heater. |

Hi Everyone! I have a technical question. Does anyone know what socket wrench size I need for loosening the water heater nut to let the water out? I have a 2010 175 R-Pod. My husband tried to loosen it with other tools, but, it was locked on solid. Before I go to the hardware store and start guessing at sizes, I thought I'd ask here first. Thanks in advance. Thanks so much! You saved me from having to buy a whole bunch of those thingies! I've been following everyone's directions on winterizing but got stuck on the water heater nut.
