What type of sealant should I use if I find any exterior sealant that needs to be repaired on the RPOD exterior seams? It doesn't appear to be silicone based. I've read that once you use silicone, nothing else will stick, so I don't want to use it by mistake. ------------- Glenn Hyundai Santa Fe <-> RP 173

I dont know about your response to hearing about once you use silicon nothing else will stick. I have never heard that one before. I have owned a fiberglass boat for years and have used clear silicon sealant on it and never had a issue. I have also been a mechanic all my life working for Ford for 15 years and now Offshore for a gas compression comany. I have always used some form of silicon and never had an issue of not resticking. All you would have to do is clean the area with something like Charcoal light fluid with a rag, to clean the area, dont spill it or let it run. Then go back with Rubbing alcohol, it evaporates then you can apply your clear silicon sealant. One thing about it remains flexable, and last for years. If for some reason you may have to reapply, it is simple to take off with a plastic scraper and clean with the above again before reapplying. I am planning on using this method if mine needs it. It appears you are reapplying silicone sealant. What I meant was once you use a silicone based sealant, no other will stick.
From a google search:
"Use a silicone Tub and tile caulk. It's much harder to use, but once silicone is used you are pretty well stuck with it."
"The Only thing that sticks to Silicone,............. Is more Silicone......... "
Perhaps it is possible to clean the old silicone off enough to use another sealant, but I suspect that within the cracks and crevaces that need to be sealed, that would be very difficult. ------------- Glenn Hyundai Santa Fe <-> RP 173
