Oh the fun of DIY RV maintenance! On our last boondock trip with very rough roads, I lost completely lost the black tank discharge pipe. Came off at the tank and ripped off the hanger strap. What remains is the black tank opening, remnants of some kind of caulk and a metal band.  I can rebuild the pipe, valve, holding strap, cover.

What I don't know is how to best attach the pipe to tank. What is the caulk used? Plumber's putty? Tank opening is 3 1/2 ID.  (My apologies to the backcountry for leaving a pipe/mess somewhere remote.)

I've lost two: one coming and one going. When we noticed the freshener pod lying on the ground underneath after setting up one night, we put a bucket underneath and used the vault toilet next door for the remainder. We found the pipe intact beside a bad bump in the road on the way home and I set to doing a better job than the repairman the first time. Found no way to reinforce the joint so its now attached (with much surface prep and experimenting using various clamp and trial fits) using adhesive caulking, Gorilla Black Tape, a new pipe clamp and metal strapping at a heavier gauge. It seems to be holding the water load with no leaks, but I came to the conclusion our Gastropod just can't survive the Forest roads to the camps we like. We may be looking for a heavier, better built trailer in the class of a MicroWinnie. Learned a lot with this purchase back in ‘16, including the fun fact we just won't camp where the road is paved. Good luck.

Oh. One more thing. Never look back when the black tank is loaded.
