So we have our new 172t sitting outside in a blizzard. We want to have curtains over each bunk so the kids can feel its their own space...problem is so far i can only find 72 inch shower curtain tension rods and i believe i need to cover 74 inches...anyone done this or have an alternate plan? The first thing that comes to mind is to use clothes bar hardware and a piece of 1/2 inch steel electrical conduit. Look for the clothes bar hardware that one piece is a closed circle that attaches to one wall and the other piece is U shaped that attaches on the other wall. Cut the conduit to fit snug in between them. The bar and the curtains can always be removed if you needed to.
For the finished look, pick up a couple of rubber or plastic caps to put on the end of the conduit to keep it from digging into the wall. If you do this cut the conduit a little short to allow for the thickness of the bottom of the caps. These caps can be found in the section were the store has the rubber and plastic feet for chairs.

thanks, i was hoping not to have to drill or screw into the walls though...maybe i need to get over that.

Try using some short (3/4" or less) molly bolts. Double-measure the actual length as you've got less than 7/8" to work with in the walls and you don't want to poke through to the outside. ------------- Craig :: 2009 RP171 towed by a 2017 F150 |

What we've done is to put up a couple 3M hooks. (One by door and one on the opposite side) Then we took a cloth shower curtain and hung it across the r-pod. This makes it easy to put up or take down. We also added a hook on the other side of the bathroom door. That way, you can position the curtain in front of the door and have a "changing area". I have a 2010 172, so I assume the bunk area is the same. We took the cotton shower curtain and tension rod out of our house and it fit fine, going from the bathroom wall to just above the door. We actually shortened it (by twisting one end) quite a bit to get it to fit, but it works like a charm. The curtain goes from the ceiling to the floor with some to spare, but the rings were clip-on type, and we just doubled over the top to shorten it.

i ended up finding a 75 inch tension rod so i can have seperate curtains for each of the kids' "rooms".
