I just purchased an rpod 171.
The lady I purchased from showed me an area under the dinette that had water damage and where she thought the problem was from.
Well, as we removed the trim and subfloor we found that it was wet under the bed area and up the walls.
I noticed part of the mattress was wet in a spot as well. I peeled the wall paper up and the wood is now dry. I also treated with a bleach mixture.
My husband sealed every part of the outside and found the rear spoiler had big gaps that could have been the culprit.
Any other known areas we should check?

The Spoilers are notorious for leaking and you'll find a lot about that in the archives here. My 172 leaked from there too before I got it. At the suggestion of folks here I sealed it wiht eternabond tape and never had a problem again.

The 1" vinyl trim insert could be problematic if you notice cracks in it, easy to replace and quite cheap to purchase. Any place on the roof where there is di-cor (around ff fan, antenna, bathroom 2" vent) should be checked for cracks, if cracks are found add di-cor (self leveling). Check your storage doors and make sure the rubber is intact and in good condition. When traveling, lock them, if they aren't locked and you find yourself traveling down the road in a rainstorm, water will find its way inside, ask me how I know.

While you’re at it,pull off the vinyl edging from the metal trim that holds the roof to the walls on the exterior of the 171. Redo all the screws with stainless screws and add a bit of sealant to each screw prior to replacement. The trim sometimes works like a gutter and water penetrates the walls that way too. When I redid mine I found the manufacturer had drilled hole for screws but didn’t put any in in some places. Also make sure the vinyl strip is open at the bottom of the leading edges. The manufacturer sometimes brings the vinyl strip down to the bottom edge of the trailer then wraps it under with a screw. When it rains the metal track fill up and then tends to leak through the screws. All this I describe can be done a few hours. I also agree that the spoiler causes most of the problems. It’s not always sunny weather and later in the year if you live in a place that gets snow,the snow sits on top of the spoiler and finds it’s way through all the screws that are used to hold it on the roof. They screw the spoiler in and usually crack the gel coat underneath. Redo the screws with a dab of sealant then use the Eternabond tape over it and voila. It won’t leak again. Best of luck, a little effort to repair these poor manufacturing details and you’ll only have to hook up and go camping after that with confidence…..
