This isn't even RV related, but is probably something many RV'ers do: Pack their DSLR or SLR film camera for some good old fashion photography of the non-smartphone kind. Canon and Nikon both have announced they will no longer produce DSLR cameras in favor of producing the less expensive, mirrorless digital cameras. I for one will miss that characteristic clunk of the mirror and shutter. It was satisfying and fulfilling to know another masterpiece was in the works... maybe.

The mirror was an artifact from the days of film. It has not been needed to produce great pictures for years. It just added weight, complexity, and cost to the cameras. I will be interested to see how they make the transition.

No argument there, but it is one of those vestiges I hate to see go away just because of the memories. Much like holding a book instead of an e-reader. I do remember, frequently cursing the weight of my Yashica, and later Pentax K1000 during backpacking trips.

I've used DSLR cameras (owned by someone else), and they are nice. I do think that the lenses are the key part. If they can keep the ability to switch lenses, then that would be a win-win situation.

Have to admit.. I gave up my A1 a decade ago, and don't miss it. The new digital cameras, and even the better phones take fantastic pictures for what most people need/want. I haven't blown anything up to poster size since I was a member of the Army A/V Photo Club in Kitengen FRG 40 years ago...
