Good Afternoon, I'm looking to replace a leaking dual propane regulator, however really having a hard time finding one. It's on 2014 RP178. Thanks for your help !

Depending on the type of dual stage regulator you want, look at an RV parts and accessories catalogue. Okay, that is not a dual propane regulator. It is a dual-stage propane regulator. It is horizontal so that the vents are on the bottom. We had one like that before I changed to a dual-tank setup. There are many sources available for regulators as mentioned in posts above. Let me revisit your first post. You say the regulator is leaking. Is it the regulator or the hose? I've had the pigtail from the tank to the regulator go bad on me. It leaked at the point where it screwed into the regulator. Use soapy water to determine where the leak is. If it is the regulator, it will need to be replaced. If it is the connections, they may just need to be tightened. I have used this Camco 59013, I had my 2022 Grand Design Reflection TT for 6 months and the on demand water heater started to throw the E-1 gas code when it would try to ignite every now and then. I thought it may be the regulator on the water heater because the stove and furnace seemed to work fine. Just as a thought, I decided to change out my main propane regulator and now I have no more problems with the water heater. The stove seems to have better flame as well, even though I did not recognize a problem before. But with the new regulator it seems that the flame is stronger. |

Our original regulator failed after 8 years because I never turned the propane off unless the tank was empty, resulting in a black gooey liquid that plugged up both propane lines as well as the regulator. Lines were flushed out and cleaned and a new regulator Camco 59313 (2 stage regulator) was purchased. Lesson learned: disconnect propane line during winter storage that lasts for 6 months in northern Michigan. | And it is not that big of a deal to keep the single tank regulator and just switching to the other tank when one is empty. One tank lasts a long time unless you run the heater a lot. |

jato, thanks for sharing your experience with the consequences of leaving the gas turned on. I went outside and checked the gas and found that I had forgotten to turn it off. LA, it is one of those things you find out "personally and up close" by screwing up, which I did. Now my dad never turned his propane tank off, except when changing tanks and he never encountered this. Wonder if there has been any change to the propane or any additives since the 1960's? But I do know that I have witnessed this issue with a few other campers who have had the same experience seeing their flame getting smaller and smaller over time. When others have told me this at the campground the first thing done is to turn the propane off and remove one of the lower propane lines to see if anything comes out. I'm a bit late to this post but thought I would chime in. The regulator in the picture is a Cavagna 524AS two stage regulator. It is manufactured by an Italian company and from what I can tell it is the absolute cheapest propane regulator of it's type that you can buy ($29 on Amazon). We have the same one on our 2017 RP179. We have been having intermittent propane system problems for several years now which may be caused by the cheap regulator, propane safety lockout or cold temps and high altitude. I am going to install a Camco regulator which hopefully will solve our problems. If that doesn't work I will have to spend big bucks and hire a mobile RV repair guy. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the advice. I usually turn the propane off at the tank valve when not traveling. I don't know how to check the propane lines for "black goo" even if I wanted to. At any rate I tested the propane system after we got home from our last trip and it works now except the cooktop flame is more yellow than usual. I'm starting to think that we need a tank heater of some sort. Our propane problems seem to coincide with having the tank refilled and then camping in cold weather (down to 20F degrees). When things warm up and the liquid propane level in the tank drops the problem goes away. I have also read that in warm climates (like our home in SoCal) propane has a higher percentage of butane which is more prone to freezing.

Easiest was to check your line is to disconnect the rubber line at the front of your pod where it goes underneath.
