Has anyone installed a brake controller in a 2022 Nissan Frontier? If so where did you mount the controller or did you use the one with a just a knob on the dash and the controller mounted remotely. Was it a professional installation or did you do it yourself? Any advise specific to a 2022 Frontier will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is an easy do-it-yourself job as the Frontier has a wiring harness connection for the controller. That is, if the 2022 Frontier is essentially the same as the 2010 version I have. I used the Hopkins In-SIGHT Flex-Mount controller. I don't know if it is still available. Look on eTrailer for information as well as for the correct wiring harness plug-in for the controller.

Mine is mounted on the driver's side above where my left foot sits on the side. The display is above on the top of the dash and the manual control is on the right near where the 2/4 WD switch is.

Thank you, unfortunately the 2022 is nothing like the 2010. I did the controller on my 2015 and yes it was an easy installation. I watched a video on e-trailer for the 2022 and looked under the panel on my 2022 and it looks scary. I put the one on my 2015 just to the left of the steering wheel but it can't go there on the 2022. Thanks again.

Thanks I know which parts but I watched some of the video and it means taking quite a bit of plastic trim off and I'm not sure I want to get involved in that I usually end up breaking the clips. But thanks again for your suggestion.

Is there a plastic trim panel that covers the underside of the dash on the 2022 Frontier? I know it is a new model. I am surprised that access to the wiring harness location is hidden.

Trim is not too difficult, especially on a new vehicle where the plastic is still new enough to not be brittle. There are tools you can purchase at Harbor Freight that assist in removing trim. Even on my 2010, the plastic is still flexible enough and I have removed it multiple times to run wiring and antenna cables for the amateur radio equipment. Most of it (if they have not changed it) are plastic plugs that pop into and out of sockets. However, since I have not seen a 2022 Frontier, I will have to defer to you since you have one.

AS THE BRAKE CONTROLLER TURNS!!
Brake controller update. So Nissan refused to do the brake controller install. I found a shop that is wiling to do the install and went there this morning after an hour or so the owner determined that most of the panel left of the steering column would need to come out. He was uncomfortable doing that but he has an employee who works Mondays and Tuesdays who could do the job. We shall see.
If anyone haas done this on a 2022 Frontier (not an earlier model as they are totally different) and has advise I'm all ears.

Try etrailer. They have a brake controller finder on their web site here. https://www.etrailer.com/bc-2022_Nissan_Frontier.htm?&Redirect=8 - https://www.etrailer.com/bc-2022_Nissan_Frontier.htm?&Redirect=8

How much can you get for the Frontier?  You may be happier with a Ford. Wink  Their tow package includes a very good controller and much more.

My 2015 Frontier which I traded last week went 113,000 miles with close to 60,000 miles towing the r-pod including 6 trips Boston to the Rockies and 1 to Alaska. The only maintenance other than scheduled maintenance was front brakes at 80,000 miles. I'll stick with my Nissan thank youSmile
My son's F350 diesel spends more time in the shop than on the road. We actually liked the Ford Ranger better than the Frontier but I have never been a fan of turbos. We will solve the brake controller problem somehow. Why Nissan chose to sell a tow package without a brake controller I don't know.

Agreed! Does it at least have the round 7-way Bargman connector? If it only has a 4-pin connector, then it would need the full wiring package, much like I had to do with the Escape I had before we got the Frontier.

Thanks, Yes I have seen that article and we had no problem finding the plug. Two issues, first because their really is not a good location for a standard box type controller on the dash, we have chosen the Redarc controller which has only a knob, so we need to find a place to put the box under the dash and the knob requires about 4" behind the knob when mounted so we need to be sure we have the space before we drill. Thus the panel needs to come apart. The installer is not comfortable taking the entire left side of the plastic panel so he is bringing in someone on Monday to do the job. As I said we will get it done.

Okay. I did not see that you had found the wiring harness plug. I like the Hopkins InSIGHT FlexMount controller I have. If I did not have it, the Redarc one is what I would choose. Is there room above where your left foot would sit while driving? That is where the control module for mine is mounted It has worked out well there.

I might suggest looking at a two part controller.  Mount the knob where ever you want to and the controller pack somewhere that is within reach of the connecting cable from the knob.

If it's all getting to be too much trouble you could consider getting a wireless brake controller that plugs into your 7 way and has a 7 way output to the trailer. These are set up using a phone app via Bluetooth. I don't care for them myself because if you wanted to manually activate your trailer brakes in an sway emergency you'd have to leave a phone on and the app running all the time. But they are certainly easy to install and use no under dash space.

I found an installer he dropped the panel put the knob in a blank switch spot and it looks like a factory install. Took about an hour and a half. Towed the trailer today works great. I would post a picture but I do not know how.
Thanks to all who responded with suggestions.

Going to be real interested in how the '22 Frontier works for you. I've been a Nissan truck fan since my '86 4X4 King Cab. Definitely the best value out there.

I took it out for a local drive with the trailer to test the brake controller, the biggest difference seems to be the nine speed transmission and it seems to have a better ride than my 2015 Frontier. It will get a better test in July when we go to Colorado for a month. Since I always felt the 2015 was adequate in the rockies this should be better.
