The rp-171 r-pod was one of the first r-pods to come off the Forest River production line back in late 2008. The combination of 60" wide queen bed and large front dinette have proven very popular with 2 person families. The dinette table legs fold under to allow it to be made into a small bed as well. Storage can be found under the queen bed and each dinette seat. Additional pass-thru storage is located in the rear allowing easy access from both sides of the camper.

The overhead cabinet are located above the stove and sink. The LCD TV combo is located under the cabinet assembly. A full refridgerator (REFER) is located between the bed and kitchen area.

Each rp-171 comes with a front mounted propane tank, waste-hose storage tube and front hand-jack. The r-pod sidewalls and floor are 2" gel-coated laminate providing R9 insulation factor. The axle is a dual-axle torsion suspension system - providing a smooth tow.

Forest Rivers MSRP on the rp-171 is $17,630, the average dealer price appears to be in the $13,000 - $14,000 ballpark, with awning.

The cabinets aren't that good. The table in my 171 got pushed over and the hit the edge of the cabinet and put a big dent it it. Look like it was made of foam or pressed wood. Anyway doesn't look like anyway to fix it. Cheap stuff if you ask me.

I am curious - does the 171 (or the others) come with a battery? I don't see it in the photo and I wondered how you got the items to work without hookups. Is it an option?

Thanks

That is odd, never noticed the pictures had no battery. That being said, all the Pods at my local dealer had batteries and I'll go out on a limb and say it's standard.

From what my dealer and some others have told me Forest River ships them with battries and the dealers put them on before the sale.  I was given the option when I bought mine to have two installed.  I turned it down but then later added a second on.

My 171 built early March 2009 with the sandlewood (the White no longer available) cabnets seem to be very strong.  Nothing has marked them or cheipped them yet.

We continue to be pleased with our171.  Ours came with battery, the r dome, microwave, etc.  That said we did replace the heavy clumsy table with a Lifetime Personal Table.  Much easier to use and the height is adjustable.

When I bought my RP171 last year, the battery was not included.  The dealer provided it in the "dealer package" which also came with propane (FR included an empty tank), sewer hose, toilet chemicals, water hose, etc.

Usually with new campers the tanks come empty and there is no battery.  The fuel and battery are sourced locally by the dealer.

misplacedtexan, are you talking about the wood that surrounds the doors?  Mine feels like solid wood.  I'm bringing my 'pod around front tomorrow afternoon in anticipation of a trip this weekend and I'll double-check.

Yes it's the wood at the edge of the cabinets next to the table. It didn't hit that hard either. Mine did not come with a battery. Took the one off my old camper that I traded. Like my 171, just looks like it made with cheaper stuff than I thought.
