My black tank is 3/4full and I can see the solids in the toilet but I cannot get it to drain.... I messed up and did not have everything closed off I was just leaving it open to drain which apparently is big mistake

What now

I helped another camper with this same problem.  Took a 2 gallon bucket to catch the 'honey' and placed it under the sewer outlet opening.  Took a 3 foot stout stick, opened up the outlet, stuck the stick inside and unplugged the 'plug.'  Quickly withdrew the stick, closed the outlet.  Then hooked up the hose with the 90 degree fitting, re-opened the outlet and let the rest drain into the sewer tank.  Drained the bucket contents and then rinsed off both bucket and stick.  Threw the stick away.

You already learned the lesson, good for you.

Just fill the tank with water. The only thing that cleans out the tank, is the giant vortex that is created by the water rushing out. As you stated, never just leave the valve open, it will cause the problem you now have. Before I go to a dump station, I always fill the black tank till it's close to full. Sometimes I need to fill the black tank with a few gallons, sometimes I need 12 - or 18 gallons. Bottomline, make sure it's full before emptying.

It's also a good idea to drop a Bio-Pak down the toilet opening every couple of days once you have some liquid volume in the tank. It'll really help break down the solids.
