There is an opening in the upper left hand corner near the fresh water inlet. (Ref. photo) what is  that and should it be pugged? Thanks everyone in advance!

No photo appeared but what you have described sound like a pressure relief line so when you are filling the fresh water tank pressure does not build up in the tank and if you over fill the tank water will come out of that line along with backing up and coming out of the fill line.  Hope this helps

I just learned about that too...had the hose hooked up to fill the tank, forgot about it and the overflow worked perfect and shot the water all over the place!
