I want to do this on my 179 for our 3-year old, hoping someone has some advice. Thinking of maybe suspending something from the ceiling of the slideout so that we can pull it up during the day and drop it down at night, but not sure where to attach it so that it will safely hold the weight of bed+kiddo.

The only part of the rpod roof that is designed to carry significant weight is he center flat section where the a/c is located. You might be able to add some folding clips to the frame of that and hook something in after extending the slide.
But why not just let the little guy sleep on the dinette after it's been made into a bed at night?

I am hoping to find a way to keep him on a narrower surface towards the edge of the couch so that we can rig a little privacy curtain in the slide out with a tension rod. He goes to bed hours before we do, so it would be nice to minimize the light and the chances of us banging into his bed when we walk by. Plus we might get a few more minutes of sleep in the morning if we can keep it darker in his area.
