Has anyone installed an alternate freshwater monitoring system?

I don't care about black or gray levels, but I would like a closer estimate of freshwater level, since we boondock quite a bit.  I only want to carry as much water as I need.

I have looked at the pricey float-resistance systems.  They look accurate, but I'm worried about the difficulty of installation as a retrofit.

I have an alternative method installed. It's called my eyeballs.

Seriously though, the simplest solutions are usually best. You can see the water level in the fwt. If you want to be able to check it more accurately why not fill it, then drain say 5 gallons at a time and mark the water level with a marking pen? Assuring the tank is level shouldn't be a problem because you're levelling the trailer anyway.

If you don't want to have to bend down to check every time just reach down and snap a photo of the area where your marks are with your phone.

Thanks OG, that is a great idea.  Ours seems to be pretty close and that is good enough for me.  Never worry about the black or gray as when I run out of FW, it is time to drain the other two.
