I have searched the forum. Thanks for everyone’s input.

My question is where on a 178 should I place the jack to lift so I can change the tires?

Thanks
Mike

I used directly behind the tire on the frame.

I made a jacking block that allows the jack to be placed under the axle, but which puts the jacking force on the brackets, not on the axle tube. It travels packed along with a small floor jack that fits under the axle. There are pictures in my mods.

+1  Agree with both comments above.  As close as possible to the backside of the wheel.  Depending on the situation I have also used the steel plate (3/16" thick) that extends below the axle 9/16" to put my floor jack under to lift the wheel.  The steel plate on my 177 is about 10" away from the wheel.  For safest results, if possible, keep trailer hooked up to your tow vehicle and chalk opposite tire to minimize movement.

The vertical flange of the weldment connecting the axle to the frame tube is extremely strong. I found that the slot in the scissors jack that came with my Highlander fits that well so provides a strong and secure on the road jacking point with no requirement to carry two jack.

At home I use a floor jack on the same vertical flange but I'm careful to assure a very level location as there isn't the slot to flange engagement I get with the Toyota jack.

Hey everyone thanks for the information.  Still learning about the 187, proceeding with caution. This unit has been well kept but rarely used. Tires look good but may be the originals. I have been checking things staying in the yard. I have ordered Goodyear Endurance thru a local dealer. I will make first voyage after they are installed this week. Thanks for your help.

We took one trip to Florida from North Carolina this month. Our next trip will be to see our daughters and grandchildren out west. My wife and I are looking forward to that trip. I hope you enjoy your first adventure. Will you be making a local trip or will it be some distance away?

I am planning a local trip Thursday if the tires are installed.

My wife and I will probably do the Natchez Trace soon.

Hope all your trips are fun and safe.
