Got a 2017 180 and inside one of the 2" plastic strips across the ceiling that hides the seam between ceiling panels is beginning to sag and separate from the ceiling. What is the best way to reattach it? I believe they're attached at the factory with either staples or short brads. Maybe even a combination of glue, not sure. If I reattach it with brads, how long of a nail can I get away with before I hit the bottom of the roof shell? It would naturally be a major nightmare to puncture the roof trying to fix a cosmetic ceiling strip. If brads are used, I would touch up the exposed heads with paint. Take a look at the construction video so you see what’s inside there. Should be 1 inch thickness, wood in curved areas, aluminum square tubing in the top flat section. I’d suggest glue and screws rather than nails. Nails and brads are ok for shear loads but don’t have much pullout resistance.

Excellent! The video was a great help. I think I'll maybe try glue first to see how well it holds. It'll keep me from trying to match paint color for the larger screw heads. We had that issue with trim strips along the door. I tried to use a brad nailer on it and they punched through the aluminum, but the trim was so thin it popped off. I ended up screwing it on [ugly -  ], but solved the screw showing issue by buying some seam tape that matched. It covered it really well. Now I have a nice roll of seam tape for anything that happens to the walls.------------- Never leave footprints behind. If the glue doesn't hold I may have to resort to screws and trying to match the trim with either tape or paint. Trim color is an off-white. Probably pretty standard. ------------- 2017 180 2010 GMC 1500 Hybrid |
