I'm in eastern KY in cool, rainy weather. Just what they need, more rain. Using the heat a lot. I get uncomfortable 5 or 6 degree temp swings (70F setpoint drops to 65F before the furnace comes on. Can I get a thermostat that will control it tighter? Will the furnace tolerate that? ------------- John '16 R-Pod 180 |

Sure, any thermostat that provides a contact closure when calling for heat will work. If you get an electronic one then it needs to operate on 12Vdc. I use on of these little W1209 tstats to better control the water heater. The W1209s are incredibly cheap yet very versatile and run on 12V. If you don’t want it visible on the wall you can put it somewhere concealed and just locate the thermistor temp sensor where it gets a good interior temp, away from the furnace vent of course. You can also calibrate it with an accurate thermometer.

You don’t want it to short cycle too much so the temp delta (aka hysteresis) of the tstat can’t be too tight.. But the furnace has a built in time delay as the fan runs for awhile after the gas shuts off. If you have the dometic electronic thermostat, see if this helps...your thermostat might be set for 2 degree differential (swing) and possibly changing it to 1 degree will increase your comfort...try it: "You can configure the system to operate using On/Off differential of 1 or 2 degree F. To set the temperature differential: Ensure your thermostat is Off. Press and hold the “―” button. while holding it, also press and hold the On/Off Mode button for three seconds. Release the On/Off Mode button. Then release the “―” Press the “+” button to toggle between “d1” and “d2”, “d1” for 1 degree F differential and “d2” for 2 degrees F differential." Then press the mode button to save. Mine also has a 'Co' setting and I have no idea what that one does...it might be a Celsius setting? I dunno I didnt change it.
