How is the RPod floor constructed?  Is it solid plywood or a sandwich of plywood and foam or ?

Thanks.  No way I'm mounting a table pedestal on the floor then.

If you use coarse threaded short screws it is pretty strong.  Strong enough that the aluminum base sleeve broke on the pedestal I originally installed on the floor when I put way too much weight on the table.  [I've taken off the weight since then.  Evil Smile].  But the screws didn't budge.  They were as tight as ever.  And when I replaced the pedestal base, the new one was plenty strong too, all on the sandwich floor of my 172.

You might also want to check into lighter table material.  That particle board stuff that comes with the trailer is unseemly heavy.  I used a Lifetime 30"x30" child height table with the legs folded up.  I was more worried about the post base pulling out of the table so put a wood backing plate on the bottom of the table to hold the upper base screws.  It worked well and doubled as a low "coffee" table outside the trailer simply by folding out the card table style legs.

I chose the recessed pedestal mount, so I got to drill a large ugly hole in the floor of the new r-pod...yep...the floor is a styro sandwich.

Why did you drill the hole in the floor?

Why did you drill the hole in the floor?  The base on the bottom is different from the base on the bottom?
*Slow internet this morning.  Sorry for the duplicate post.

Yes, why drill that hole?  And where did you get your pedestal mount?  Looks nice.

Ahha! Now I understand, flush floor mounts are available and need a hole.  I found this one on Amazon:

In our Pod, I tripped too many times on the base sticking up.  If I had it to do again in that trailer, I'd get the flat one.  Our Sonoma has the raised bases for the table but they're never in an area where one would walk, so tripping isn't an issue.

Yes it is a recessed base, so you have to bore a (nearly) fist-sized hole in the floor. I did plan to add a 'backer board' underneath, but it hasn't been needed. I did seal it against water.

podwerkz, is your table pedestal solid and are you happy with it?

I assume it's the same one that lostagain gave the link to.

I mounted the post bases on a piece of plywood that became the new floor under the table.  It fits tight between the sidewall of the pod and the 2 ottomans.  It is very sturdy.
