Hi folks,

This past weekend I think the element in my hot water tank crapped out... I think it actually crapped out before the weekend.. basically, the water doesn't heat up on AC anymore, however it does on LP... so I was going to replace the element and while I'm at it, I was going to take a crack at the anode as well...

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this? when I look the tank, it is covered in styrofoam... I'm about to pull out the manual for it to see if I can find any information on the location of the parts as well as the replacements...  but so far, this forum has been far better than any manual written.. :-)

thanks...
GoofyNewfie.

The procedures are described in your water heater's manual.

But, briefly:
- DO NOT remove the styrofoam
- Both the anode and the electric element are accessed from the outside of your r-pod via the water heater's access panel
- Before you begin, make sure that you are not connected to share power and that your battery is disconnected.
- The anode is also the water heater drain nut - its a very large hex nut at the bottom of the water heater.  Unscrew the nut; attached on the inside of the nut you'll see the anode rod.
- The electric element is also removed via a hex nut.  Beside the drain nut, there's a small tin box on the water heater.  Unscrew the lid of the box and inside you'll see the electrical connection.  Disconnect the electrical and unscrew the element plug.

Doubtful you'll need to change the anode rod yet.
