Most places we stay have city water but not sewer hookups, so we bought a cart/tote to dump the grey tank as it fills during our longer stays.

While hauling off our grey water the other day I had an epiphany - turn the onboard tanks into removable and towable tanks like the one we bought.

Sure it would raise the price, but what a selling feature.

I'm now thinking about a winter project- remove the grey tank and install a tote.

I'm not sure if it's realistically feasible but it's something to look into.

You would need to install a vent connection as well as the drain connection.

What is the benefit, you still have to dump the blue boy at the dump station, right?

Why not just hitch up, drive over there, dump, and drive back? Seems much easier than using a blue boy.

True, I just don’t want to move once everything is set up.
I figure it would require some separate plumbing like a smaller holding tank or something that would have all the permanent connections.

I bought a tote to do exactly that. I dump in the tote walk or tow it to dump facility and back, do the same thing with the grey tank. I never move the Pod and I've done nothing to modify it. For short stays the set-up is handy for long stays the tote cures the move the Pod issue. The tote I have has a ring that fits over the trailer ball.

Mine has the trailer mount ring as well. I got one of the camco rino ones. It’s super handy. Ended up with the 28 gallon model. Fill it when the grey hits 2/3, then hook it to the Jeep and away we go.
Just thinking it’d be a nice onboard/off board solution.

Ok, makes sense.

I guess it has a lot to do with how you camp. Mostly boondocking, I go well over a week to empty my fwt and fill my gray tank, and there isn’t anywhere to dump anyway. I don’t have anywhere to keep the tote either.

I can see why folks with an elaborate camp setup, like using an rdome for example, and using a lot of water, wouldn’t want to hook up just to go dump. If I don’t bother with my wdh my wife and I can do it in about 5 minutes probably. Not a big deal.

Back to the original question, you would need to come up with a way to lift and lower the tank under the pod. Lowering it will be full so that’s about 250 lbs. You’d have to crawl under there to connect and disconnect it. Interesting challenge to figure it out but it doesn’t sound like it would be a lot of fun to actually do.

That’s what got me thinking about changing the tank(s) to removable.
Right now I have to pack along the tote for any trip over a long weekend.
Moving a set up camper is a real pain I think. Everything is unsecured inside at that point and of course the TT leveled. I don’t want broken coffee pots, salt all over the floor. Ect.

Yea the weight would be a big problem as well as the plumbing and venting. As I said it’s realistically probably not doable due to all that would need overcome on a preexisting TT. Just a thought.
