Subject: Mount rear camera on 195 ladder

Picking up my 195 in a few weeks and already purchased a Haloview MC7108 wireless rear camera and monitor.  What I'd like to do is (at the dealer before I leave) do an install without drilling by using a bracket similar to one used to mount a light bar to the rear ladder.  This is the bracket I'm looking at:

My thought is to splice a 12v wire from either the lower left rear running/break or side running light, run it up the ladder and over to the camera mounted high on the ladder towards the center of the RV.

1) Can anyone tell me the diameter of the vertical runs on the ladder?
2) Does my source of power make sense of is there a better option?
3) Has anyone done something similar or am I just two paranoid about drilling holes in the RV?

Thanks,

Larry

Mine was mounted just above the l.e.d running lights. My dealer did the install. They took the power from the l.e.d lights, and everything works great.

Our Sonoma came with a Furrion base plate mounted just below the 3 center running lights.  Since I didn't want to spring for an expensive camera, I got one on Amazon that worked with a cell phone.  I mounted it to the Furrion base plate and hooked the power supply to the running lights wires.  The base plate was just screwed onto the real fiberglass wall covering the cut out for the Furrion camera.  I reinforced the holes in the wall with those little metal screw clip nuts that I slid over the wall material.  It hasn't fallen off yet and works great.

You may want to take a caliper and measure it.  If you don't have one, use an adjustable square and mark the other side of the tube, then measure it.  Likely it's in the neighborhood of 1", but that may depend on the particular supplier.  Our FR supplied ladder uses 1" tubing, but they may use a different supplier in the r-Pod factory.

Thanks but I don't have the R-Pod yet so I can't measure it.  Driving to Ohio go pick it up in a few weeks, hence my questions about mounting the camera.

Most of the cameras I saw when I looked for one to buy have a flat mounting base, for placement on a flat surface.  Since they are after market items, if you are able to find one that has a mounting kit for a ladder tube, it will probably be adjustable in the to accommodate tubing in the neighborhood of 1".

You may want to consider a license plate mount or mounting it under the group of 3 rear clearance lights.  The wire you need to get power is right there and easily accessible.  In addition, you won't have a extending out to the ladder tubing that could get snagged on something.  Just a thought.

I measured mine, and they measure 1 inch diameter (.990). Parts on these camper can change from camper to camper, but that's what mine measures. I posted a link earlier, showing mine mounted on the back, just above the group of 3 running lights incase you didn't see it.
