It would be about as easy to look at the trailer to find all the screws as it would be to find and watch a youtube video about it, if one even existed. And yeah, take a few samples to a good hardware store or big box home center...they will probably have what you need. ------------- r･pod 171 gone but not forgotten! |

Rust is common to all screws made of steel when there is moisture available. I have had 2 FR trailers and they don't seem to be out of the ordinary, insofar as rust is concerned. If the screws are rusting where there should be no moisture, it's an early warning sign that water is getting into where it shouldn't. Parts of the screws that are exposed to the outside will normally show some rust if not powder coated or painted. If the shafts of the screws are rusting, you may want to try to figure out where the moisture is getting in and fix it. If it's coming in through the screw hole, then take the screw out, coat the threads with marine sealant caulk, and replace them. If it's coming in through some other source, then you'll need to track it down. ------------- Never leave footprints behind. He he. You live in NV where there is no moisture to speak of. If you live in the Southeast or drive in the winter in the Rust Belt its a different story. Moisture is everywhere, and everything in those areas rusts. It doesn't necessarily mean that moisture is getting in where it shouldn't (although it could be). SS screws are a great idea, but mild SS (like 304 aka 18/8) will rust too, often badly. 316 is the good stuff, although its more expensive. What??  No moisture in Nevada??? Why it's raining right now. Only we need a whole lot more as does CA.I enjoyed the excessive salting of the roads in NJ, having lived there 10 years and have seen the results on every kind of structure made my man or bird. It's awful. I agree, where you have that kind of corrosion potential 316 SS screws make sense. It's really frustrating to see the results years later. A perfect screw, with everything around it oxidized or corroded, the screw hanging by a "thread." Personally, I tried to take my car to the car wash after every snow storm to rinse the salt off top and bottom. If I had a trailer there, I don't think I'd take it out on salty roads, though that can't always be avoided. Even here we have salt issues. Both times our trailer has been out this year, it got a salt bath on the way home from melted snow and salt. Now, it's just sitting, and sitting, and sitting.... along with the new truck to pull it. NO! I don't have cabin fever! I'm just feeling cramped. Maybe I should take my mask off at home? ------------- Never leave footprints behind.
