I am surprised by how poor my FM radio reception is on my 2016 172. It seems like the antenna on the pod is decent so I expected better reception. Admittedly I am usually in locations where poor reception is to be expected, but when I'm not I thought it would be better. Anyone else have this (first world) problem?

do you have the antenna booster engaged?  It is a small push button on the same plate as the co-axial cable connectors.  The booster does a good job of bringing in FM and tv signals most of the time. Be aware that it is powered by the 12v battery-so do not leave it on without shore power.

I removed the TV (I dont watch TV) and was also disappointed with the radio performance, especially on AM...FM was passable but not great.

I installed a seperate dedicated radio antenna on the top of my r-pod and routed that cable to the factory AM/FM radio. Reception on both bands is actually quite good now.

We have a 2018 172 R Pod that once we're out of a city provides poor AM and FM reception. Therefore we're also looking for a way to improve radio reception as we don't watch TV.

Our 172 has a KING JACK™ DIRECTIONAL OVER-THE-AIR ANTENNA and a Jensen AWM968 stereo. It is my understanding that the power button on the wall mount connection, when depressed, only provides 12 volt power to the antenna and has nothing to do with radio reception. I've pressed the power button to ON and radio reception remains poor.

Any suggestions on using the King Jack antenna to improve radio reception are appreciated. At this time I'm hesitant to install a separate radio antenna.

I have to correct my post of Aug. 31/19. As I stated we don’t watch TV but use our Jensen stereo for radio. I thought that the King Jack antenna was only for TV reception so I sent the manufacturer an email asking about radio reception. They replied saying that the antenna also improves radio reception, as long as the power button is pushed ON to provide 12 volt power to the antenna.

Just arrived home from an out of town trip during which I pushed the power button ON and tested radio reception. Well it Worked! With the power button on I had several AM and FM station to choose from. And here I thought I had already tried that...

So the Pod People in their June 10/19 post were correct.

Now to try the radio reception in the boonies.
