When I was disconnecting the hitch from the car for the first time on my new 174, I did not pay close enough attention as to where the emergency brake cable was attached to the car hitch. So now I can't remember - does it attach to the ball? Just anywhere on the hitch frame that would be convenient? I'm not going anywhere soon, but this sure is bothering me. Most people either attach it to the same loops where the chains get attached, or on the end of the clevis pin (the big pin that holds the hitch in the receiver), just behind the cotter pin (the small pin that holds the clevis pin in place). However, there have been accidents where the entire receiver assembly drops off the tow vehicle either due to rust or the bolts pull out... and when the brake cable is attached to it... no emergency brakes. It is best to find something you can attach it to directly on the car. | I placed an i-bolt loop under my Trailblazer attached to the frame. If the whole hitch was to detach from the truck the emergency brake cable is attached to that and will activate the brakes. I put that in after having the cable drag on the ground and catch on a curb as we were pulling out of a gas station. Thankfully I was not going fast but still I think we got whip lash. Now NOTHING hangs low on the trailer but the step. Just need to see what I can do with that. |

| Drilling some new mounting holes I can move the steps up a bit like maybe 2" but need to see how far of a drop it willl be for my wife. |
