We have a 179 and really like it!  I currently tow with a diesel 2500 pick-up but I don't use a WDH with the R-pod.but do have sway control.

But we are enticed by the 195 because of the bed orientation and certain other features.  I notice that the 195 is going to be a foot longer which isn't a major deal.  The tongue weight is also supposed to be 300 lbs more according to the specifications that I saw.  I know that the tongue weight will probably be higher when the trailer is loaded but can be effected by water tanks, etc.

At what point does a weight distributing hitch become really important?  I suppose I could ask a dealer but I put more credence in the response from this forum.

For your truck, weight distribution won't be an issue until about whatever point your owners manual says is the max TW without one. For our truck, it's 1500lbs.

Now that doesn't mean you may not like using one... For our Pod, we towed with a Expedition, 9200 tow rating 900lb TW. The 385 or so pounds tongue weight we had was no issue on paper.. BUT, using a WDH, the big Ex rode better, and smoother. If you are happy with the ride you have now with the 179, I seriously doubt you will be unhappy with the 195. If you are, or just get WDH curious, give one a try, and if you don't, you still will be well within your trucks capabilities.

Agree with Furpod. A 2500 (AKA 3/4 ton) should be able to handle a tongue weight north of 1000 lbs, and none of the R-pods are in that range. Also as he stated, you may like the ride better with a WDH, regardless of whether you need it or not.
