The other day I was looking at pictures of small trailers like our Pods and ran across a wet bath with what appeared to be a standard shower stall door of glass or plastic. As I was getting all the pink stuff out today, I got to looking at my shower door and thought, heck, I could put replace that useless wood door with a plexiglass door that would allow me to get rid of that pesky shower curtain that is nearly useless except as a very effective deterrent to ever using the shower. Has anyone tried doing it? Seems to me a nice 3/8th's piece of frosted or textured plexiglass could be an effective way to have a useful shower stall and dump the curtain. The trick would be to figure out how to seal it so water wouldn't get out of the shower area, but that doesn't seem like something that couldn't be overcome. ------------- Never leave footprints behind. It would be pretty heavy compared to the door and would as you say be a leaker. Why not just remove the door and use a shower curtain across the door opening only? We never showered with the door closed. Just pulled the curtain over the doorway.. One of the early and popular mods for the wet bath was to add new track, or an "extend a rod", or making one if you are handy.... Room in the shower is not what I'm trying to achieve, it's getting rid of that hard to dry shower curtain that presents a mildew problem and is a tripping hazard for someone as clumsy as me. I checked the weight of 3/8ths plexiglass and it is a tad heavier than I want, but a thinner piece, perhaps surrounded by an aluminum frame to make it rigid might do the trick. A 1/8th" thick piece of acrylic or plexiglass would weight just under 7 lbs. plus the frame. A 3/16th" thick piece would weigh about 10 lbs. but would also probably need a rigid frame to allow the gasket to work. Thankfully, our Pod is already on the light side of the scale because of all the stuff we've taken out. So weight is not all that critical. The door would be about 9 square feet, so even up to 1/4" thick material I'm still dealing with <14 lbs. I don't know what the door weighs, but it is certainly in the same ball park. I'm going to investigate this possibility further and if I proceed will report back. Thanks for the replies. ------------- Never leave footprints behind. Let us know how it works out. As to keeping the water from leaking out at the bottom, you could maybe use a standard shower door frame with the little drip edge on the bottom. In fact, you might be able to find a used glass shower door removed during a remodel project, take the frame extrusions and hinge off, cut them to size, and install your Lexan in that.
