I just bought a new r 174 this week.  My question is, how do you jack these things up to change a tire?  What kind of jack do you use since the camper didn't come with one, and where do you place it?  I have a lot of other questions I'll save for later.  Thanks.

This is a much-debated topic.  The axle manufacturer says don't jack it up under the axle.  FR says don't jack it up using the 'pod's frame.  I'm still waiting on the levitation accessory that will solve the problem!  General concensus is jack it up using the frame.  If I ever need to do it I'll try to use a board to spread the load over more than one part of the frame.

Welcome to the forum!

The debate is always there as to how to do.  LIPPERT COMPONENTS, INC has in the instructions for adding the risers the following:

SUBJECT: 3” Riser Kit for Surveyor & R-Pod units equipped with Torsions
1.
Raise unit one side at a time by placing floor jack under frame between tires or behind axle if unit is a single axle. Lift side of unit so tires are just off the ground. Support that side with jack stands and repeat on other side of unit.
2.
Remove wheels from axles.

Thanks for your replys and suggestions.  It is strange that this isn't specifically addressed by FR.

I just talked with my dealer and they told me to jack only on the frame right behind the wheel and only high enough to get the tire off and the new one on.  Also something to think about carrying is a bar to remove the lug nuts.

Or the other idea is get AAA Plus RV and then call AAA to replace the tire.

Great information! Thank you! I know there is a 3" lift kit but do they make a 4" inch lift kit? If so, Where can I order either the 3" or 4"? Mike

One of the first things that I bought for the pod was one of the large four position lug wrenches.  The spare has a different size from the working wheels!

Bottom line is that the frame is easily bent and easily broken.  Be careful when jacking up the corner stabilizers also.
