Subject: older post on adding window to RPod Door?
Date Posted: 19 Mar 2019 at 10:56pm
I've searched all over the forum but cannot for the life of me find a post that I know I've seen in the past. I want to add an operable window to my RPod door - does anyone recall seeing a post on this? I recall  that several members have done this, but have had no luck with searching it for it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.....

Find the window you want, cut the hole, install the window, Measure twice, cut once etc.

Expand the time frame for the search and set it on all topics instead of a specific topic and you'll find lots of info.  It's really pretty easy to do once you pick the window you like.  In one of the posts that'll come up on your search is a good supplier, whose name I don't recall.

Thx - I'll try again with an expanded timeframe; that's what I neglected to do. I'm sure something will come up. I was hoping to find the post(s) with sources/item #s.

Thx again for a helpful reply!!

I have a few pictures of my window. I cut the opening with a jigsaw after drilling a pilot hole. I used the stiffest blade I could find so it would cut without deflecting.
Pretty much was just;
mark the hole,
cut the hole,
apply silicone,
insert window,
screw on interior trim ring,

Will do thx. I am leaning towards an operable window as we are always having to pop our door open when using the stove.

Nice job! I'm sure it will go fine, just didn't want to reinvent the wheel and surprisingly an Amazon search wasn't bringing up the Vintage Technologies window, so am glad that StephenH posted.

voisj looks like you cut your window without removing the door? I was thinking that it would be easier to remove the door to be able to make the cut in a horizontal position (door on sawhorses). Did you have any difficulties cutting the door in place?

Ben,
I did it in place because I didn't want to remove the door, It works and was aligned perfect, and you know Murphys law.
The main issue was styrofoam particals EVERYWHERE. I put a sheet over the screen door and shut it so the inside stayed clean.
I had to make a temp brace so the door wouldn't swing while I cut and used blue tape to make sure it didn't sag while the silicone dried.
I opted for the window with the pull down blackout shade, takeoff on Ebay $56. Not sure about operable windows.
Don't be to scared,it's not that big of a job, measure 3 times cut once, Good luck!!

It’s pretty easy to remove the door-just several screws on the hinges. I think it makes the job a lot easier to put the door on padded saw horsesvann

I have an R Pod171 which has a window next to the door so I am thinking about installing a peep hole in lieu of a window. Can you think of any issues? Looks like there are not any structural members in the middle of the door? Peep hole minimum thickness is 1-3/8 inch, is the center section of the door less than that? Appreciate you thoughts!

Door thickness is 1.5" - as long as the peephole is adjustable should be fine. What I can gather from other posters is that the door center is just foam, no structural members in there. Just ordered my door window, will post photos of the install once it arrives next week.

You are correct-there is nothing in the door except the inner/outer skin and foam interior. Tape both sides, trace and cut away. Clean the surfaces with ed alcohol before using silicone caulk so that it will stick better.
