I ran across this today.  A 20 pound LP tank that is translucent!  You can actually see how much LP is in the tank.  No need for a gauge or running out of gas.

Check it out:  http://www.rvupgradestore.com/detail_66-4962__175.html - http://www.rvupgradestore.com/detail_66-4962__175.html

Lots of "cool factor" with that thing, although the price is not so cool.  Definitely would start some conversations with your neighbors at the campground.  I use the cup-of-hot-water-down-the-side trick and I think I'll stick with that.  Drop the price a bit and I'd consider it.

I'm not familiar with the cup of hot water down the side trick...  What happens when the hot water reaches the level of the fuel?

The metal will feel warm near the top, and as you move your hand downward, you will come to a level where the metal feels cool - due to the cool liquid next to it. This transition from warm to cool identifies the level of LP in the tank. For this to work, you need to use very hot water.

Yep, and that little trick works too.

That's a very neat trick.  Thanks for explaining it :)

I just purchased the translucent tank as I only have the 175 set up with one tank. Wanted to make sure I knew exactly how much LP I have left (I like hot showers). Am having it filled today. My only concern is that it has a slightly larger diameter than a metal tank. Hopefully it will fit with no problems in the "cage".

Let us know if it fits. I too have thought about having the tank. But the price is high and thought to wait to see if the price comes down.        David

Fits like a champ. Will have to get a longer bolt for the cage, but just a minor hiccup. Smile
