Our 2018 Rpod 180 came with a double run aluminum entry step. When we were initially Rpod shopping the dealer had several with the single steel step and we liked it much better. When we asked if they could swap the steps they scoffed and said the aluminum steps are much better. Does anyone have experience on changing the 2 step aluminum to steel single step? I looked online for steps and the mounting brackets are different, I realize some modification will be necessary, i just don't want to go into this blind. ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

I am in the same boat as mcarter. Our 177 came with a single step and after 6 + years of bending my rear stabilizers, I added the 4" lift and went to the double step. My DW who got a new knee, appreciated that big time. Curious as to why you desire to go to a single step.

The double steps are too close to the doorway making it awkward to step out of camper, the single was more comfortable for both of us. ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

I think I still have my single step from when I swapped it out for double. My wife appreciates it, especially now that her knee is acting up and we are looking at her having a knee replacement in the not-too-distant future. I would not go back. You are welcome to it. The last I saw it, it was not rusty either. A problem you might face in changing steps is the difference in mounting brackets for the two varieties of steps. Please measure the distance between the inside of the mounting brackets to which the steps bolt. Thanks everyone for your input. We found a double step that is very sturdy and well made. It is a Step Above by MORryde part# STP-2-24-09H. Costs over $200 but is well worth it. ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

Mike, you need to google the step I purchased, I tried to post a picture but was unable to figure out how. The step I bought is very heavy duty, it folds up into the doorway when traveling, and when in use it has adjustable feet(on the ground) to set level on most any terrain. Plus the steps are spaced just right for natural entry and exit. Our old steps were placed to close together and to narrow, and you really had to pay attention when stepping in and out of camper. The mounting is very simple, it attaches on the floor in front of the threshold with screws, and that is where the hinge is for it to fold into the doorway and latches to the door frame. ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

Well darn!!! If we didn’t have a screen door the steps would fit. The problem is the door doesn’t swing all the way open because of the fender and that prevents the stairs from folding into the doorway.  ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

Does that fold up under the door, as opposed to into/through it? Looks like it from here, in which case, you just need the width and drop.

Problem is, on the Rpod’s the camper box is about 1 1/2 feet narrower than other campers and there isn’t enough room between the outer wall and the frame for the step box frame to mount without major metal fabrication work. ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

I bought magnetic mount vent deflectors from Homedepot, i got the big and small one and using them both,one in front of the other the furnace air is deflected at a 90 degree angle from under the bed.  ------------- GMC Canyon/RPoder |

Correct. And it should fit a Pod fine. I have added double steps to several pods over the years.. It is no larger then the standard flip steps. The engineering dept was quite responsive to my questions and measurement submission. Measure what you have, give them a call... https://postimg.cc/PLQNTm7H">

Actually, the R-Pods frame is ALSO narrower by a significant amount.. In fact the steps on your Pod now are right off the shelf, standard TT steps. ------------- |

2 years ago I added the double step to my 177. Like others I found it to be shakey (for lack of a better word.) Princess Auto had a scissor jack on sale that went to a lower height of 4.5in. up to (I forget)but more than I`ll ever need. Now the 2 step is very solid, after set up I just put the scissor jack under the bottom step, raise it up to give stability to the step and is very solid. ------------- Ron & Shirley 2020 Tacoma 2012 177 rpod |

I like the idea of steps that don't fold into the entry for a couple of reasons, including not having to clean off the feet to avoid bringing mud & dirt into RPod. If RPod was our only house I wouldn't care about that additional chore, but under the circumstances I really want to keep things as simple as possible. Also there are situations where we don't need to lower the step (quick stops, etc.) and that option would go away. As we age and also for some older family members I do think a two-step will be a good idea at some point so I'll be watching this topic and reading others' experiences.
