Greetings,

Does anyone have any specs for the new Rpod 195?

All I have been told is that it has a Walk Around Queen bed and a bigger refrigerator/freezer.

It’s supposed to begin production next Spring.

But I don’t know the specs...

Will it be longer?
Will it be wider?
Will it have Dual Axles?

My wife and I are excited by what we know so far, but we would love to know more,

Chris in TN

Not a word. They make an EVO that is a 195. It has a walk around queen, and a no slide floorplan. Little heavier than a Pod, sure you are not tracking that?

It has a slide with the dinette and a rear kitchen.

The basic floor plan was posted on Facebook today.

The EVO has a smaller fridge, but a lot of indoor storage, Walk around queen with storage. They been out a couple years. No slide and what appears to be aluminum siding.

This model is still just on paper, Forest River will update me as it comes along, and hopefully I'll follow the prototype as it's built.

Things I can "semi" confirm.  Still planning to meet that 3500# range, a bit longer, a bit wider.  Forest River themselves don't know a whole lot more than that yet.

Seems to me that the interior would have to be wider for the walkaround to be really walked around. With the current interior dimensions, a 60"-wide bed only leaves 6" on each side.

If its wider I don't really see how it can be an R-Pod. It becomes just another trailer. That narrow width is a basic feature of the product line. Starting to be like the 70's when the same car models kept getting bigger and bigger every year until there was no longer any resemblance to the original vehicle. just sayin'

Have you been able to speak to any of the honcho's at FR to find out if there is any future possibility of re-introducing the 177 or does it all come down to dollars and cents?

Only enough to know it's for sure discontinued. No OOP model has ever been brought back.

I was hoping to talk to them at the minimini, but ended up not being there, and I don't think Sue thought to ask..

She did however, I kid you not, get me the 177 headstone from the FR groups Halloween display.. :)

She also said the 10th anniversary colors are blech. :(
But I have a plan if we spring for a 178 next year..

I think the exterior would look much better if instead of the black and white circles, reflective silver and reflective white material would be used for the decals. That would add some visual interest to the exterior. Doing the R-Pod in a shaded look to make them look 3D like the white with the green swooshes that I saw there would also add to the appearance of the exterior. Please pass these ideas on.

No Pod has been built yet with a TPO roof, so we can at least guess that it will be fiberglass.. But in my view.. just buy a Surveyor.. they already have a floor plan close to this available.

The problem is that the 196 is a user's idea of what would be a great floor plan. It is not a Forest River floor plan. I would like at least some drawings of what the 195 would look like at this point. There have to be some sketches at least that FR could release showing the concept with the understanding that the final product may not match entirely the concept. I'm not talking about blueprints, just artist sketches.

Food for thought...So the current width of the pods with a 74" bed would mean the 195 would only have 7" each side of the walk-around queen bed (60"x74") if I have my measurements correct. If not, we may be seeing a wider body model? I also would like to see a twin model 195. The 191 twin has the wet bath, where this would have the full bath and looks to be able to accommodate twins with the room for the walk-around queen. Not seeing how this could all be accommodated without pushing out the width and maybe even the length a bit. So then weight may have to increase. Lots of questions. JM

That math is right. What's the minimum acceptable walking area around a bed? Gotta have somewhere to put your feet when you get up. Unless you're a Chinese empress with tiny feet maybe 12 inches?

60+12+12=84+2x1.5 inches for 2 wall thicknesses = 87 inches. There are any number of TT's available with a 8' width (96 inches, only 9 inches wider) to choose from.

The way FR could perhaps get around this is to extend the dinette slide forward to include part of the bed, but I'm not sure the slide could catch enough of the length of the bed before the roof curve comes down too far. And big slides are heavy because they weaken the trailer structure so it requires more framing to compensate.

Any way they do it this would be a really big, heavy rPod. It would almost certainly need a heavier axle (or two axles) and likely a heavier frame. More weight. Its a vicious circle. But there are lots of folks towing rPods now with TV's that are much heavier than needed for the application, so I'm sure there will be customers for it. I just won't be one of them. My wife and I will continue to climb over each other, after awhile you get it down to a science.

There comes a time when a combination of creaky and increasingly stiff joints makes the climb-over more difficult. That is one of the reasons I did my dinette modification. If it came down to it, I wanted a more comfortable place to sleep if it came to the point of not being able to do the crawl-over. I would really like to see the 195. It is possible that if a full-sized bed were used instead of a queen (54" wide instead of 60) it would give enough foot room to maneuver(about 10-1/2" on each side), but then it would be not quite as nice as the queen.

To increase the width of the RPod would require a brand new frame as well. I don't see any way of increasing the width which would make the outboard part of the axle even larger and subject it to even more stress unless the frame rails were also repositioned. The other alternative would be to modify the body to allow the wheels to be recessed. That would mean somehow having a wheel well in the RPod. Given the placement of the dry bath, I don't think this is possible even if a wheel well under the dinette might be worked in somehow. Somehow, I don't really think that the width will be increased.

As it is, it looks like the dinette may be shrunk to allow room for the bed. That does not bother me as it is not likely that we would be having overnight guests if we were to go for the 195.

Longer, wider, and by no doubt heavier but still with a curved roofline. Hmm. sounds like an Evo with an rPod decal on it. Nothing wrong with that if you're Ok to tow that around. It will be interesting to see what axle(s) they put under it.

We'll see.

Just came back from the Toronto RV show and they had the 10th anniversary 191 and 179.  Looking at them up close, I will say that (in my opinion) the real life versions look better than the photo's but I still find the "all grey" colour very bland.  It doesnt seem to have the same striking appearance that the 2015 & 2017 colour schemes had.  The insides were well appointed, the colours were very light, so I can see why someone may want to dim down the LED lights (somewhere else on the forum).  The pull out kitchen from the front storage bin was a nice touch, but would also limit the amount of functional storage space.

All in all, the RPod's still showed well.  We toured a lot of units like Airstreams, Alto's, NOBO, Rockwood's, etc and in the end we are still very happy we bought our RPod.  The functionality is still superb and for the space you get, the weight is unbeatable!

The Airstreams are beautiful TT's!  but when the price is 3-4x the RPod, it is difficult to get your mind wrapped around that.

It was a fun day, now we can't wait for spring to arrive... especially when you drive home in the snow and ice :-)

An Evo or a Rockwood. If they make it wider, then the wheels would have to have wells, because (I think) axles are pretty much fixed in width. Maybe they will be doing a Evo/Rockwood/R-pod hybrid?

We just toured the 191 at the Tampa RV supershow.  We really liked the twin bed design. And would love it if they made the 180 with a twin bed option.  But after not being in an RPOD in over a year we realized we made the right decision moving up to a bigger RV.  The RPOD was just too small for us.  So while the twin bed option is an improvement, the lack of under bed storage now with the twin bed makes for even less storage capacity.

Yeah you may be right on the Rockwood. Look at the Geo Pro 19FD. There is the 88 inch width, about the minimum practical for a walk around queen. It has vestigial fenders on the inboard trailer wheels. Weighs in at about 3900 lbs, similar to the largest rPods, but without a slide. Marketed for off grid use with a 12V TV, solar module and dual propane cylinders. They can probably add a slide and still be about the same weight by specifying a low cargo weight.

A sofa wont work here because of the height of the slide. If you look at the outside you will see it. This is why there is no storage under the main part of the bench.

Pondering the 191 vs the 195, but I would love to see a 195 Twin.
I would be concerned about the kitchen slide on the 191, where the kitchen is at the rear of the 195 layout.
The 191 has the water tank under the driver side twin, and given the weight of the 36 gallon tank, where does it go in the 195. The washroom in either has the Black tank under the toilet area, and the gray tank can be balanced, opposite the black. Does that free up storage under the walk around queen, and reduce tongue weight variances based on fill levels. Food for thought and comments ;)

Posted By: offgrid
Date Posted: 30 Jan 2019 at 6:59am
Just to clarify, the tank is 30 gallons, not 36. The additional 6 gallons is in the water heater. So there is 36 gallons of fresh water of which 30 is available for use. You can thank the RV industry marketing folks for that cute little bit of misdirection...

I'm glad that there will be an option for people who want to avoid climbing over, I tend to think RPod has something for (almost) everyone so this is yet another opportunity for that. Personally I love the width of our 179 and that the tires are outside of the trailer walls. And I'm the one on the inside, the climber-over so to speak, and so far so good. I realize this can change but for now we're very happy. And it's still fun to learn of the new models and floorplans and what-not, kinda like window shopping Smile

Although it has not reached the point where I can't do the climb-over, I can foresee the day when I won't be able to do so.That is one reason I am looking forward to seeing the 195. That does not mean that I will rush to order the first one, but it will be an option for us as we age. My wife is going to have a knee replaced the middle of this month. I have had L4-L5 fusion and the arthritis in my joints is not getting any better. That is one reason I did my dinette modification. I can use that if I can't do the climb-over.

Greetings;

I was at a RV show on Friday and did a walk though on a R191.   I like the double beds and the floor level bathroom.  Also noticed that it's on 15 inch rims with good ground clearance.  I was impressed with the design.  The only thing I didn't like was the kitchen was in the slide out.  I just don't like the idea of all those hoses moving in and out.  That's just me I guess.  At my age, It's doubtful I will be buying another RV.  I like my 179 and don't know after I turn 80 whether I want to keep towing.  Time doesn't stop.  Clap

My wife and I don't even try the climb over anymore. I tend to sleep soundly the first half of the night and she is the opposite, so she gets the outside the first half and I get it the second, swapping around 2AM.  Works for us, I'm not going to change from the 179 for an alternative layout for that.

I have been thinking since Evergreen making the Ascend went out of business that leaves only the Gulf Stream Vista with a one piece fiberglass roof having a 7.5 wide bodied camper. Perhaps Forest River is now competing with the Gulf Stream Vista with the 195 model. It looks like the outside may be very similar in shape but with a big difference the r-pod 195 most likely will have a torsion axle where the Vista's have a spring axle. They will both will be made with Azdel sides and perhaps another difference would be the Vista is six sided aluminum framed. But I think there is a market for a wider fiberglass roofed camper and maybe Forest River is thinking the same. What's next is Jayco and Winnebago going to making wider campers too.

I am interested in the dinette conversion that you mentioned. Could you post more information?
Thanks!

You can see them (along with my other mods) in my mods. The link is in my signature. You're welcome. I look forward to seeing your implementation of them as you get them finished.

I've looked at the floor plan. I like the 195 floor plan better mainly because of the rear kitchen.

I do like it somewhat, but I don't particularly like the tiny counter in the kitchen.

Yes, that is the one thing I am not overly happy with but there are enough positives that I think we could make do with the limited counter space. A cutting board cover that would fit over the stove like I use now would help as well as a cover for the sink. A lot remains to be seen though.
