Had a great stay at the Chincoteague Island KOA continued south an stopping at the RV Resort at the Carolina Crossroads. Really nice campgrounds and one of our regular stops. Gonna try to get down Assateauge before November (if dw get's cast off ankle). Got some good local reviews of https://destateparks.com/Beaches/CapeHenlopen - Cape Henlopen Might have to try that too. Were you on bayside or ocean side Assateauge? Skeeters always go crazy on the coast about a week after a hurricane. All the rain followed by warm humid weather. They're really bad here on the OBX too after Florence. In case anyone is interested the Cape Hatteras Seashore campgrounds at Frisco and Ocracoke are open, and NC12 is now open again on Ocracoke as well. We will end up down that way, brought a lot of deep woods off and others but the mosquitoes just laughed at it!!

Hoping to stop at Asseateague Island next fall on the way down for a week or so. Going to have to come up with some type of Kevlar made outfit to fish in. Leo, Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Chincoteague Island and you were able to enjoy its "official" bird the mosquito! I spent part of my youth in the 60's growing up on Post Office street, located in town, and have fond memories of the mosquito control truck going down the street spraying out a cloud of diesel smoke mixed with DDT!

Really love it down there. We have been several times over the last few years! Thought we’re had big mosquitoes up north but must admit, they don’t compare to the ones down here on the coast. I have one of the small Black Flag thermal foggers. The mosquitoes do not seem to be affected by it at all. As an alternative to DEET, I have been using products containing Picaridin. StephenH, thanks for the Picaridin suggestion. Any particular brand you like? I did get a rash a couple years about from DEET, I was using it heavily for several weeks while I was in India in an area with endemic malaria. Here I shower it off as soon as I'm done working outside. Never noticed any neur a neur a neurological effects  I hate the blanket fogging, kills the tree frogs. REPEL Tick Defense in a red can. 15% Picaridin. Repels Ticks & Mosquitoes for up to 10 HRS. Can be applied to clothing. Beside the deer ticks on the label, one other thing to beware of in the south is the lone star tick. The problem is that the bite of that tick can activate an allergy to the alpha-gal sugar found in non-primate mammalian (red) meat. We stayed at Cape Henlopen State park for 3 days in May. It is a very nice park wwith paved, level sites, some shade and picnic tables. The bathrooms are very nice and clean. They are individual rooms with a shower, toilet and sink. The campground is adjacent to the ferry terminal. We went over to Cape May NJ for the day. We had a nice time looking at the Victorian painted lady homes and visiting the shore. We also stayed at Pocomoke state park also - another very nice park and campground.
