Guys,

Out camping this weekend and did a quick check of the battery and it was actually down, which it never is. So I unhooked the battery and none of the lights or fridge are now coming on just with shore power. Wondering if this normal, meaning you have to have the battery hooked up for lights and fridge to run, even if plugged into Shore power?

Thanks for the prompt reply if possible.

If you are plugged into shore power, do the 110V appliances work (are you actually getting power through the cord)? If not, that is your problem. If the 110V appliances are working, then it is very likely your converter has failed. That happened to us once. Your converter is under warranty but you will need to go to the WFCO web site and download the troubleshooting guide. Here is the link:  http://wfcoelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/New-Flow-Chart-for-WF-8900-Series.pdf - http://wfcoelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/New-Flow-Chart-for-WF-8900-Series.pdf

If your converter tests bad, contact them for warranty replacement or go through your dealer. In the meantime, if you have a 12V battery charger, connect that to charge your battery so you can operate things until you get the converter working again. If you don't have a battery charger, use your Tow Vehicle and a set of jumper cables to charge the battery.

If it is possible that you connected the battery reversed, even for a second, it might just be that the reverse polarity fuses are blown. Hopefully, it is something simple.

I had a converter fail in the middle of a long trip. I purchased a new converter and installed it and then had the bad one replaced under warranty. It now sits in my R-Pod as a spare in case this happens again. So far, the replacement I got has performed well and I have not had another failure (so far).

Thanks, appliance are working as are all wall outlets on shore power alone. No lights, no thermostat panel, no fridge panel, no water pump. If I do need a converter, wondering where you picked one up when traveling? Thanks for the help!

Stephen, I did step out and picked up a battery charger, which will now stay with the TV. I think we’re okay for now. Next up testing the converter. Thanks again for the timely and thoughtful help.

Yeah PP, you're outlets are 120. You've lost 12V. Charging will keep you camping until you can diagnose. Remember the 5 essentials - add battery charger, my friend.

The same place I get a lot of things--Amazon

I ordered it and since I could not enter the address where we would be (would not accept the address for some reason), I had it shipped to our Pastor who was going to bring the rest of the mission team up to where we were going to be. It was a bit round-about, but it worked.

I hope you can get it fixed quickly. Ordering a replacement through Amazon and replacing the bad one on the road and then working to get the bad one fixed under warranty after we returned was perhaps the easiest and fastest way to get things going again. I don't know if WFCO sends out advanced replacements. If they do, that would be another alternative once you verify that it is bad.

StephenH,

Quick update. I was on the road for two weeks to close out the season and as mentioned, the converter failed early on. I picked up a nice charger that worked well to keep the battery charged during the trip. I did buy the replacement converted via Amazon (thank you for the link) but wanted to install when at home b/c it would provide great video material and I wanted to capture each step visually so others could benefit. So the job (and filming) was done today and it went well and was relatively easy to replace. I still have to send in the defective model to WFCO and like you, will keep the replacement they send as a back up. THANK YOU for the prompt help! Much appreciated. ~PP

Nice video John, sad to hear your converter failed. Tell me did you notice if any of the big ceramic (square in shape) were loose on the circuit board of your converter? When my WFCO converter failed I sent it in for warranty repair too but I replaced it with what I believe is a much better built converter by Power Dynamics. To each their own, right? Now I have the WFCO unit for back up plus I always carry my batter charger which has bailed me out on a long camping trip too.
