Greetings,

We live in Kingsport, TN and have a 2017 (green) Rpod 180.

We just bought a new Clam.  We have set it up in the driveway just to make sure it was okay.  But we would rather have an Rdome or maybe a ParaQue Awning or Side Tent.

If anyone has one of these and would like to trade for a new Clam, Please let us know.

Thanks,

Chris

If I hadn't just bought a Clam this summer I would have traded you. I really like mine. Easy, lightweight, bug proof, keeps the dog in, and I can set it up wherever I want.

I do have a green rdome that is barely used for sale that would fit your 180. Price is $250, let me know if you're interested.

Thanks

I have both. I don't know which I like better. I love my dome and use it all the time. But I wanted the added ability to enclose the picnic table to keep it dry and bug free. It's a great addition, I would say get both if you can.

I understand.  I’ve never used either one.  But our kids each bought a Clam for their families and we can always use one of those if we ever need to.  Being an old Scoutmaster I just think I’d like the dome or a side tent more.  But having both is a good idea.

I'm just too lazy to go through the effort to put up the rdome. The clam takes 30 seconds, by myself, and lays flat in 15 seconds if I'm expecting a windstorm. And its really buggy a lot in coastal NC, the rdome doesn't help much with that. The Clam contains our Pomeranian without having to tie him to something, which of course he would immediately wrap himself up on, he's not a rocket scientist LOL. And if I want to set it up down at the beach or anywhere other than on the side of the trailer, no problem.

That's why I'm selling the rdome, let me know if you decide you want both or can't find a trade.

The dome does great against bugs. You do have to install the skirt. After the first fitting, the skirt takes 10 seconds to install. We used it from the Carolina coast to the great lakes, and pretty much everywhere in between.

Never tried the skirt, I guess it needs to be trimmed to a couple of pieces to clear the wheel? Anyhow I have my doubts about it being truly Carolina skeeter attack-proof. Seems like too many little gaps here and there.

The first time I used the pod during a major mosquito event I found out the hard way that you can't open the pod windows all the way. Just a couple of those little corner holes resulted in at least 50 of the little devils finding their way in, took me most of a sleepless night to track 'em all down and kill 'em.

We're having one of those skeeter swarm events right now, they always come about a week after a hurricane. DEET is my friend...

I have this one.

There are also larger sizes.

Actually the escape is 140 inches across, the pavillion is 154 inches across. The pavillion is the largest so far, with built in rain flies on all sides. Just to be accurate.

Yes true. The Traveller I have is only 72X72 inches.. I find it perfect for 2 people. And the rain shields are definitely needed, otherwise water comes in through the screens because the sides bulge out and splashes everything.

But probably the important question for anyone who wants to make the trade is what size the op actually has.

I would like to know what a clam is, and this person does not get the Rdome- I may like it if it fits a 177.

Thanks!

Thanks, I was able to locate it on Amazon. It’s basically a portable canopy with screen walls.
EzUp makes one called the cube.

There is also a Gazelle that is real similar. They are all different sizes. The Clam and Gazelle can go up in under 100 seconds (they claim less than a minute). The EZ-up Cube is more involved and seems more expensive for what you get. You can get the Gazelle through the Home Depot.

Hi Brew,

I’m not real smart and I can’t get a picture to load on here.  If you do a google search for “Clam Quickset Escape” you will find several links that have pictures, details and prices.

It seems that personal shipping is crazy expensive.  The box is 72” x 8” x 8” and it weighs 34 pounds.  It cost around $80- to ship it.  If you have a business account with FedEx Ground you may pay half that much, but I don’t have one.

I hope that helps with your questions?

Chris

Hi Chris,

No worries, I was able to locate it on Amazon. Thanks for sharing, we are still looking for the perfect set up...this will help.

Thanks again!

DreamerTN, you raise a good point about personal shipping. I guess that's one more reason to love Amazon Prime.

And a swap would require two shipments. If you just got your Clam and it is unused, can you simply return it?

Mcote, not sure who you were asking about the rdome, but if it was me, I don't think mine would be a fit for your 177. As I understand it, the 179's and 180's use a bit larger size.

Maiden Voyage Starts Tomorrow at 8:00 am!

We live in Kingsport, TN and we’re heading to Maine!

We have a 2017 (green) Rpod 180.

Our son lives in Kennebunkport and we hope to get there this Friday for a weekend visit.  Then on to Bar Harbor next Monday.

We will have five days to enjoy before we head back to Kennebunkport for the holiday weekend.  Then West somewhere... just follow the blue sky for a few days.  Then head home around the 12th of October.

We would welcome advice on campgrounds in NE Maine and also SW to wherever.

Also if anyone knows a safe rest/camp spot on I-81 N in PA for tomorrow night...

We will be taking our new Clam with us.  If anyone along the way would like to meet up and trade an Rdome or Pahaque Awning or Side Tent that will fit our 180 just let us know.

Aol address is: Chrism43

Thanks to all who reply.  We are super excited.

Chris and Pam
