Hello fellow podders
I’m looking for suggestions on a trickle charger for our battery when we have our trailer in storage.
TIA Cheryl

We have a schumauker trickle charge that we use during the winter months and use our Renogy solar set up during the spring summer and fall months.

I have had a harbor freight chicago electric trickle charger hooked up to our pod for the last 5 days.

Pod is not quite perfectly level, refrigerator keeps beeping. (Drives wife nuts) Was causing battery to go flat every night.

Hooked up the trickle charger, it is holding the battery at 12.2 or roughly 3/4 charge. It is a lot smaller than a full sized battery charger, does not put out near as much heat. So IMO less waste.

It is just a wall adapter, a fairly long cord a little box maybe 1.5 inches square, and a couple of clamps.

This one looks much heavier duty than the one I have, and at 20$ I would buy it in an instant.

Why get a separate trickle charger, you have one already on board? You can just leave the trailer plugged in and let the rPod battery charger do its thing, its a pretty decent 3 stage battery charger.

The only reason is if there is no shore power where the trailer is stored.  Then there are options:
1. remove the battery and charge it (intermittently or trickle)
2. use a solar maintainer
3. replace battery every spring

Quite right. I just wanted to be sure the OP knew he/she could use the rPod charger for this task if that could be kept connected.

I remove my battery to keep it from being stolen (happened with my tent trailer battery once) and maintain it with a two-amp trickle charger.

Have an older Sears Craftsman charger that does 50 amps, 20 amps, and 2 amps on auto or manual settings.  Every year we pull out both of our group size 24 12 volt deep cycle batteries and set them on the concrete floor in our unheated garage.  In November we will give each a 2 amp trickle charge that will normally take 24 hours to bring each to a full charge.  They then sit there all winter and then the following May (first week) we repeat the process, again the charging time is in the 24 - 36 hour range at 2 amps.  Batteries were purchased March 2011 and still going strong.  I do check the water level 2 - 3 times per year and add distilled water to any cell that may be a tad on the low side.
