Is it recommended/suggested to use a surge protector when using a generator?  I never have in past but for some reason this crossed my mind.  Thanks!!!

I don't really see a need. You're not getting voltage that has been stepped down from a higher voltage through a transformer like you have with shore power.

Yes, if it's being loaded down enough (e.g. the AC compressor kicking on and you're near capacity when it does). But an inverter won't spike nearly as badly as shore power when the voltage comes back up.

+1 Bum, the invertor shuts itself down, mine does, if it's overloaded, not like campground power that can spike.
