Hi,
I'm picking up my new 2018 178 model on Saturday. I've searched this forum, but I'm having trouble finding any information about covers. My pod is going to be parked outside when not in use and I'd like to get a cover. I see some information on a brochure on the FR website, but I'm wondering if there's any common advice about covers. Are there any ones that are recommended or not? I'm in Southern California so the cover will be subjected to intense sun but no snow or anything like that.

What's your sense of the level of effort to put the cover on and take it off? Previously I've just used a cover for winter storage but now our Pod sits out in really intense sun all the time when we are not using it. Wondering if its realistic to cover it in between uses, or is it really a once a year kind of thing?

Ben,
It is a hard one person job and a bit of effort for two folks. I lay mine out on the ground and move cover over TT, one person on each side, each with a length of PVC to assist cover over the stuff on roof. We tried with two ladders but didn't work so good. You have to be careful to not tug, jerk or pull too much on the cover. Practice makes perfect :)
My advice - Pod in sun, cover it. Outside exposure, especially sun (and weather) is the worst for RV roofs.

Thx, we live in western Colorado and the sun is fierce here. Thinking that maybe a simple Harbor Freight tarp with bungees might be best - just need to cover over the roof.

Harbor Freight tarp is not a good option. You want something durable enough to last yet soft enough to not scratch up the finish and yet breathable so that it does not build up moisture. A tarp fails on both of those points.
Get a cover made for the R-Pod model you have. You will be better off.

Big +1 - tarp is not right answer for long term. Maybe short term, in TN a tarp lasts a month or so. Of more concern is bad fit an wear to Pod finish.

We live in southern Oregon and summers can be hot (100+ today) Bought the Classic Accessories basic cover that fits perfectly over our 178. About $150. However, after 3rd year the fabric was disintegrating to the point of shredding when the cover was gently pulled off. Classic Accessories makes a great cover, but don't go with the cheap one. Online reviews were very positive for the high-end version. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for!

Had same thing happen, don't buy cheap, make investment. Far less expensive than roof repair.

I hear what you guys are saying, I plan on getting a good quality cover for off-season storage; was thinking more something just to protect the roof from our fierce sun in-between uses (we get out every 2-3 weeks). I do have a large sunshade tarp (70% shade cloth); might try that to see what it does. I don't want to have to take the cover on and off every time we go out.

Especially if you can suspend it above the roof so it isn't touching. I think that would work well.

We have a cover for our 177 that we have never used. We are selling it, as well as the pod due to back issues. The cover would have helped with preserving the decals, but wax would have done that, too, I think. I don't know if ours would fit a 178, but it is still in the box and will be sold for well under the price of a new one.

Thanks for the offer - I checked though and our 179 is 26 inches longer than the 177, so I don't think that the cover would fit.

I cover the pod year round, takes me 5 minutes by myself to uncover and 10 minutes to cover, all i use is a 6 foot ladder. Just do it the same everytime!
