Taken off another forum for those that want the ability to tilt their TV mount.

"R-Pod TV mount from the factory comes with a 12" straight bar with the TV mounted at 90 degrees and no method of tilting. Harbor Freight this week with their July monthly sales pamphlet has a TV mount that tilts up to 15 degrees down. It is item Number: 64238.   Last item, Page 16 of monthly ad.
You use only the new TV mount and its head. Keep and use the original R-Pod 12" support to the wall. The new head and mount are interchangeable!!
Remove the TV's 4 Philips head screws. Unbolt the large mounting head - 19 mm.
Put Harbor Freight's mounting head on the end of the original arm: 3/16" allen wrench with 1/2"wrench. Place the flat washers in their original position so that it can be moved with some friction.
Mount the Harbor Freight TV holder to the TV with the original Philips screws. Slip the TV and holder over the new mount and screw in the two side Philips support screws.
Adjust everything to where it will move with some friction.

I wrote this up in my mods. One addition to the above is to take a small piece of 3/8" PEX tubing to use as a sleeve inside the end of the swing bar since the bolt for the new head and mount is smaller in diameter than the large bolt for the origninal non-tilting mounting plate. The 3/8" PEX tubing is just the right diameter inside for the new head's bolt and outside to fill the space so the head sits stable on the arm. See my mods for my write-up.

I did something similar with a mount I bought from Amazon. I don't remember the model, but the "head" was pretty much a direct fit onto the existing arm.

I remember that, but could not find the posts that discussed the tilt head to add onto. IIRC, that part was more expensive than the one from HF.

I just looked at the HF one. I definitely like the tilt mechanism much better; the one we have uses a knob at the back that's hard to get my fingers in to tighten and it's difficult to get seated correctly. At $15, it might be worth changing out our existing one. I'd probably 3D-print the bolt adapter.

I don't suppose the arm is a little longer than the factory mount. We have a 24" Samsung TV in our 179 now and I've had to rig up an extension. I'd like to eliminate the extension if I could.

Not wanting to be tiresome - This is a very nice product that I'd like to buy, but dang, it's made in China.

Unfortunately, the arm on the HF mount is shorter than the one that came with our 179. Also, the plate to bolt it to the wall is smaller and meant to screw two lag bolts into a stud in a house. I don't think it would be as strong as the existing wall plate and arm.

I wonder if just the head could be made to work with the factory mount's arm.

We just got one of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088RIV1W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - these . A couple of the mounting holes matched up, but a few of them didn't. NBD.

The only issue was that the tilt was more up than down, so I reversed the mount so that it would tilt down more than up.

That is exactly what I described in my mods. The factory arm with the HF head and mounting plate.

You're going to be hard pressed to find one not made in China, at least at a decent price point.

Have no idea what you are buying, but not buying China means you're not buying much.

So Glueguy is that the same mount as we are discussing in this post?

Glueguy got his from Amazon (the link in his post). It is not the same as the one in the original post and in my mods. That one is one distributed by Harbor Freight Tools. It is printed on the box next to the bar code.

Not the same. I wanted something that tilted and swiveled. Asked around a little, and just grabbed this one. It worked except for the upside-down thing. It was less than $15.

I installed the Harbor Freight mount today. As mentioned I only used the tilt/swivel mechanism and the TV mount. The PEX tube option SH suggestion was a winner. Only issue was I had to press the PEX tube into the mount arm. I used a longer bolt and two flat washers. No biggee and at end of the day the mount tilts and swivels just fine. 15 dollar improvement and works great. Appreciate the info.
