Is there a better antenna i can get for my 179. The radio im sure could pick up better reception with a diffrent antenna. Do the batwing antennas pick up more radio reception. I get over 50 hd channels at home with the current antenna.

are you engaging the antenna booster? It is the small button on the same faceplate as the antenna input cable.

Greetings
I put a bookshelf Stereo system in my 179.  I attached a 3 foot post to the hitch area, have 3 sections of light tv mast and put a omidirectional   FM antenna on top.  I use a piece of coax to plug it in to the outside plug.  It sounds and receives great.  It takes about 5 minutes to set up and take down.

I don't know why you have to turn on the antennae booster separately. You almost CANNOT either watch t.v. or listen to the radio without turning on the booster switch, yet, it's a whole different button. THEN you have to remember to shut it OFF or kill your battery. What do I know.

Crankster,
Could you send more info and some pictures for this antenna setup you have? We just camped about 20 miles from our local city and I couldn't pick up any channels. Thanks.

Greetings
Go to Amazon,  enter outdoor FM antennas,  Look for a omnidirectional. If I remember, they are about $40.  Get some cheap 5 foot sections of tv mast, a piece of 3/4 inch square tubing and a couple of clamps long enough to clamp the tubing to the hitch frame..  Get a piece of tv coax long enough to reach the plug on the side of the cabin. I also use an external amp.  You could also install a small tv antenna in place of the FM.  I use the mounted antenna for what little TV I watch.  If you are going to use the installed radio, you may need to switch the coax to that unit by pulling it out { 4 screws)

I don't use it except when on battery.

If you go to a campground that has cable hookups and you want to one, you have to turn off the booster.

BOOSTER???? what?? ok That would explain the crappy radio reception!! I just happen to have the pod in out front ..... I'm going to look for it now. Is it the face plate with the cable and satellite ? if it is, it looks like it has always been on??!! should i turn it off when not in use? our battery seems to drop quickly, I'm changing to two 6 v because of it.
My husband and I are super newbies ,still learning. I'm all about the mods!!
thanks Cheryl

You're probably better off with a disconnect switch on your battery. There are a number of parasitic drains on the battery from various electronics; a disconnect switch will eliminate all of them.

Thanks  we will look into that too. I live in AZ and because of HOA we have to park the 179 elsewhere, so we actually remove the battery and leave it in the garage on a trickle charger.  We do a lot of primitive camping and hope the two 6 v would extend battery life.
