Hi---Can anyone tell me if it's usual for the battery (after being charged fully) to lose one third charge?.  I checked it today and the gauge in the trailer registered two thirds charge--there was nothing left on and when I put it on shore power it registered full charge

ignore the status lights in the trailer and check with a voltage meter.  Those lights are for show and not really accurate at all for voltage. The ones for the tanks are close in my pod, but others ignore them altogether.

"nothing left on in the trailer" is not attainable without removing the battery or adding a battery cut off switch.

The monitor shows "system voltage".. the instant you hook up to shore power, you will have "full charge" on the monitor, because the system voltage will be 13.2 to 14.4, the output of the converter. In fact, if you remove the battery from the system, the "battery monitor" will still show "full", if plugged into shore power.

Look at the status light panel. There are two sets of labels. One is for checking the tanks. The other reflects state of charge. If you press the battery button while plugged in, all the lights will be lit. This indicates "Charging" not "Full." One less light still indicates the battery is at full charge, not 2/3 charge.
The lights are C(harge), G(ood), F(air), and L(ow). The  E(mpty), 1/3, 2/3, and F(ull) labels are for the tank status.

Otherwise, I agree that disconnecting the battery/batteries physically or using a cut-off switch is the only way to fully isolate them from the system and eliminate the parasitic power draws of the LP/CO detector and other equipment.

Thanks to all the replies on this topic--this forum sure helps out raw rv'ers like me--where would one install a battery cut off switch and if you're not tired of the subject yet--how does the process go?

If you look in my mods, you will see how I did it. I mounted it into the lid of one of my two battery boxes. I have dual 6V batteries, so that worked for me.

bailey

fresh water drain is underneath on the tank.  yes, use a hose suitable for drinking water, which are usually white, but blue as well.  just check the label for potable water use.

it is fresh water so just drain it if you have to. normally,i fill my fresh water before leaving and drain when i get home.  it is fine to travel with water in the tank, so no real need to drain it.

I personally do not travel with a FW tank full, I do keep a minimal amount in it for uses on the road. In a 178 it is in the rear of TT. Just added weight, just 300 lbs. As far as draining it is potable water, no issue. My own options. Not a fan of hauling unnecessary water, or black and gray tank fills.
