Hi all - new (to me) 179. Going about process of dewinterizing. Added water to freshwater tank, drained it off to remove residual antifreeze; found that most of the water was ending up in the gray water tank. Same thing happened when I sanitized the tank - added chlorine to freshwater tank, and topped it off. When I went to empty the tank this morning, I found that the freshwater tank was empty and all of the water was in the graywater tank. Checked for the obvious - no faucets were open. Is there a valve somewhere that I do not know about? Or is there something else going on here?

What you describe sounds like you hooked up to the municipal water inlet which does not fill your fresh water tank, but will push all the water you want through nearly all of the fresh water system and goes right into the sink and shower drains, to the gray water tank.

The fresh water tank fill port is above the municipal (pressurized) threaded port.

No, its not that - I filled the tank (not the threaded city water inlet). I've had trailers before so am familiar with the basic operation. This one's a mystery to me. Looked under the bed to see if there are any valves I was not aware of. There's one coming out of the water pump outlet (open). Any other ideas, anyone?

Oh, boy that does sound mysterious.  Have you done anything to offend the camping goddes?  Evil Smile

I wonder if you have some sort of siphon situation with your fresh water tank.  Maybe they mis-routed the piping?

Looks like I found the problem - leak somewhere in the toilet, water running into the shower drain then into the gray water tank. There were a pile of towels in the bathroom so didnt notice it. Now to figure out whats causing the leak....Cry

Sounds like the flush valve is stuck in the flush position?

My best remote guess is broken toilet flush valve.

Aha!, the mysterious pile of towels.  Hope you get the valve fixed without too much hassle.  Did it overflow the toilet?  If my wife caught me with that batch of towels, we'd be on our way to Costco to get some new ones and she wouldn't even let me wash the old ones in the washer to use as rags.  I'll bet your fresh water pump really got a good work out.

Is the water pump running? The pressure device in the line from FW tank to toilet is the pump, I guess water could flow from FW tank to toilet, seems odd without water pump pressure.

Yes, the pump was running (did get a workout!). Looks like the valve had sprung a leak. Didn't overflow the toilet since the leak was on the back of the toilet, with water running to the floor then down the shower drain. Got the parts, now out to fix it.

Cool, yeah pump had to be running, great sign of leak. Good video on YouTube of how to replace valve without removing toilet.

Funny thing is the pump in my 179 is dead quiet - used to noisier pump so I didn't hear it or I would have immediately known something was up. Pulled the toilet to get to it (not hard to do) as I can't imagine getting my big hands back there to work on it.....

:) - Interesting - I had to change my pump recently and was surprised at how quiet my new pump is. Things are looking up. See if it gets louder when leak is fixed.

Jato, my new pump was a SHURFLo 4008 101 E65 3.0 Evolution, I bought mine on sale at Camping World but Amazon has them. It's been awhile.
