We got some sample keder welt for fabricating our own awning that utilizes the keder rail along the top of our RP179 HRE. We ordered samples of 10mm, 11mm, and 13mm welt to check the fit.

The 13mm fits the slot the best, but the screws that hold it were not sufficiently counter-sunk, and the keder hangs up on them (but not a "lot").

The 11mm is a little looser, and does not hang up on the screws, but I'm concerned that it might be possible for it to pull out sideways when there's a load on it.

I know that several of you have dealt with this issue, and wondered what all your opinions are? My first inclination is to remove the screws one-by-one, and countersink the back of the keder rail enough to clear the 13mm keder. However, it just might be simpler to use the 11mm keder and be done with it.

And those of you that have traveled this path think what? Countersink and 13mm, or leave it alone and use 11mm?

Counter sink the screws and taper the ends of the keder, a little silicone spray in the track will help too.

Roger that. Hadn't thought of the silicon lube. Good idea.

I simply pull lightly on the dome, away from the keder,  as i thread it through. It takes so little pressure  to get past the screw, i can pull the entire dome through buy myself in about 1 - 1 1/2 minutes.

What size welt are you using?

I believe the standard keder size is 13mm.  Pretty sure that is what came with our 177.  Agree with marwayne, use silicone spray, makes a huge difference in the ease of installation.  Have used ours a fair amount for the past 7 years, have gone through some pretty hectic storms and am amazed that it has held together in one piece.  Only 1 tear so far and that was because I was pulling too hard and part of the material caught on the channel.  Fortunately my DW is an excellent seamstress and fixed my boo boo.

I made my awning using i/2" soft rope for keder. It hangs up a bit, but, as mentioned, silicone helps a lot. I've used the liquid and the gel.

Also, I would not go smaller. Ours pulled out once last year. Of course, we were in a furious thunder storm with a tornado about 20 miles away. I now tie a line down to the lower keder and/or the tongue for extra hold.
