Is it normal for the AC to cut on and off? I'm assuming as it reaches the temp set on the thermostat it cuts off then as the temp rises. it starts back up. ??

These comments are confusing to me. Are you saying I can set the ac to run continually without cutting on and off? It's the cutting on and off that makes it hard to sleep. ------------- |

You should be able to set the fan to run continuously but the compressor is going to cut off and on to maintain the temp close to where you have the thermostat set. If you want the air on nonstop set the thermostat as low as it will go. TT ------------- 2010 176 FJ Cruiser |

Compressors are noisy when they run. And thermostatically controlled AC units, when they turn on run the compressor and fan. Some have a continuous fan option, but that noise is relatively innocuous. If the fan and compressor turn off and on together, you are going to notice the noise. If you don't like the normal cycling of the system and the attendant noise, then you have two options. One is to turn the AC off and deal with the heat in some other manner, like opening the windows and running just the fan. The other is to do what Tars suggests, which is to try to keep the temperature as low as possible by keeping the AC running all the time. If you're paying for the electricity, you may not be very happy with that choice. If you want to store a fresh killed deer in your Pod, it may just be the thing for you, but you'll need a lot of blankets or an arctic sleeping bag if you want to sleep in there with the deer. In our Pod, I've never run the AC while camping b/c we go to mostly Forest Service Campgrounds where there is no electricity. Once we stayed at an RV park in Calistoga and ran the AC for a while to cool off the trailer, but opened all the windows and roof vent to sleep, in large part to avoid the noise. The heater makes a lot of noise too. Our practice, unless it's freezing outside it to use a warm sleeping bag and turn on the heat when I get up to make the coffee. If we have to run the A/C all night, we'll switch the fan to LO. The compressor kick-ons are much less jolting when there's a constant source of white noise. We use our a/c a lot when we go to Cape Hatteras, usually tune it out after a night or so.

These comments confuse me too. See TARS post, that is most correct. The Fan can run continuously, the AC is thermo controlled if you set it cold it runs longer if you set it hot it runs less, just like AC in your house. Get you thermostat where it shows the fan speed. Low or high. Tap the arrow up. If in low it switches to high. If you tap it again it goes to Auto. This allows the fan to go on and off eliminating all the noise. This work for heating. Not sure on AC. Try it.
