My wife and I wanted to do something about the table in our 2018 179. We don't use the table as a bed, so my wife's first choice would be something like the table in this video. https://youtu.be/owluWNKs7dU
I would need to mount the vertical tube to the vertical "wall" directly under the cushion (in blue). The next option would be to mount the flange for a pedestal table directly to the floor, in the middle of the table area (in red).  In both cases I'm wondering if there are any reasons why I wouldn't be able to do this? Plumbing lines or electrical lines in those areas. Thanks in advance! |

The pedestal mount would be challenging because the floor material is not all that thick. I think some people have done this sort of thing, but I think you would have to use relatively short screws to avoid the (black water?) tank immediately below that (don't go on my memory, as I did not go out to check to see which (or any) tank is below that area of the floor). The wall mount would also be challenging for two reasons that I can think of right off the top. First, that is not just a wall there beneath the slide out bench. It's the outside wall, and the center is roughly at the leading edge of the tire on that side. I would consider going all the way through, but that would require 2" (plus) fasteners and the heads would be exposed on the outside of the pod. The second issue is that the platform under the cushions sticks out from the wall about 1-1/2", so the mounting brackets would have to accommodate that. The more that I think about it, I'm leaning toward a pedestal base with a relatively wide plate at the bottom. Something using 1/8" steel or possibly 3/16" steel. Low profile enough to not stub your toe on it, thick enough to add some weight and stability, and not so thick to be impossible to lift. | I mounted mine on a piece of 3/4" plywood the is a little smaller than the table top. That way one can move the table around or take it out side, and it stows in 3 pieces on the bed. Smaller than the top so one doesn't trip on it walking by. I did that 3 yrs ago and use the original table in the barn. The only disadvantage is that one has to learn not to lean on the table to get up, which is good exercise for the quads in the thighs. This table is about 2/3rds the length of the original one, and 4 can sit around it easily, two on camp stools. |

I ordered two pedestals and four mounting plates, two for the table and two for the floor. I will attach with screws. Given six screws for each pedestal mounting plate, it should be sturdy enough, especially since the table will have to be taken off and the posts removed before retracting the slide-out. I will be making this modification after we get back home. I plan on using short screws. If I don't think they will hold, then I will use anchors, but make sure they are short so they don't go through all the floor layers. I have to get home to see the size screws I will need.
