Anyone here doing so I wonder?

I saw a couple really nice camp stoves that can use wood pellets. One I'm having a hard time not to buy.. Stove top, grill top, etc...

So, some sites call for 'Food Grade' pellets, which I'm finding don't really exist. Seems to me your looking for a high grade pellet (which I do burn for heat) that is of quality.

$5 a bag vs. $20 a bag and I see there is no difference so far.

So... Anyone doing so? What have you learned?

Ole dawg be careful as you don’t want to be a dead dawg.  We have a Traeger grill that uses “food grade pellets”, Oak, Alder, Apple, Mesquite & Hickory.  The meat tenderness and taste is beyond description.  That said I wouldn’t use wood pellets designed for a “pellet stove” for cooking purposes as there are no doubt toxins produced that are not fit for human consumption.  Any retailer that sells Traeger products would carry the appropriate pellets.  The Traeger manual specifically notes do not use wood pellets for use in pellet stoves.Nuke

You most definitely want cooking pellets and not heating pellets. We have been using a GMG Davy Crockett for several years while camping. It's a great smoker/grill. 12v native, so easy to power when boondocking too.. grilling pellets can be found at many places, including Lowes, Home Depot, Bass Pro, Cabela's.. etc

If I do go this way, I will side on the point of caution and go with a company that sources and makes only pellets for the grills.

Research on Traeger so far shows them as one.

Thanks folks!

https://cookinpellets.com - Cookinpellets.com makes pellets suitable for cooking. I have ordered sample packs from them, but not the 40 lb. packages. They work great.
