Subject: Winterizing/hot water heater question

I use the compressed air method to winterize my 2017 R-Pod 178.
Once I have removed my anode and drained my hot water tank and replaced the anode on the empty hot water heater should I then set the hot water heater by-pass valves to by-pass the hot water heater when I run the compressed air thru the lines? It seems that running the compreesed air thru the empty hot water heater would lessen the effect of the compressed air.
Also, what psi pressure is best for this method? I have been told everywhere from 10 psi to 60. Obviously I would like to run the lowest psi that is effective.
Thanks in advance for your input.
John

I would bypass the HWH. I just leave my anode out until the Spring anyways.... 40 is the max PSI that you should do...

I have a pipe plug I put in the anode hole, leave the anode out until spring. I do not bypass the WH.

Have used the compressed air method for 6 years on my 177, leaving the anode out with the bypass valves in winterization mode. I use 60 psi every time BUT having said that I always, always, always have one valve open while doing this. Before closing one I have another open; using this method I can go through all my outlets 2x in less than 1 minute. Results . . .no problems, no issues.

Jato, I'd love to see a video from you doing this at some point. Maybe you can have your wife tape you walking through the process? I have my small compressor with me here in FL and would rather use the compressed air method vs antifreeze to do a quick winterization when heading back up to MI next month. All the best. ~PP

JET,
I leave the anode out because I'm going to clean the WH one more time prior to spring and I'm going to sanitize, I only want to put anode back once.
